Previous Encounters
The last time these two met was back in Week 6. That ended 23-17, in favor of the Chiefs. Both teams headed into the matchup with a record of 4-1. It was pretty close score. Though that game was one of those instances where Buffalo had scored fewer points than other previous games during the season.
The Bills kicked off the scoring with a field goal, followed by a touchdown in response from the Chiefs. They were pretty close in the scoreboard for most of the game, until the 4th quarter. The Chiefs were able to get important plays down the field, leaving them enough room to complicate it further for Buffalo.
Why Should You Bet on the Buffalo Bills?
Their recent matchup against the Ravens in the NFL Divisional Round wasn’t their top performance, which ended 17-3. This would make it their second time in the season to have fewest scored points. But those points scored are compensated by the team’s effort.
Josh Allen’s performance has been quite good this season, raking at 5th in attempts. He’ll definitely bring his A-game on Sunday, as he’ll probably making a lot of plays through the air, due to the possible absence of the Chiefs CB, Bashaud Breeland, due to injury. So they try to take advantage that key players within Kansas City might not make it to the roster on Sunday.
Defensively, their rankings within defensive stats is not even within the top 10 teams. Even though this might seem as an issue, their performance during the regular season was real good, ending it 15-3. But there were many of those regular season games that were real close to become a loss. They sit at 14th for passing yard allowed and 21st in rushing yards allowed. They will definitely need to bring a solid defensive strategy in case Mahomes does play.
Why Should You Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?
After suffering a concussion in the 3rd quarter of the AFC Divisional Round against the Browns, the state of Patrick Mahomes health is uncertain, thus making the NFL odds volatile. As of now, he’s been following the concussion protocol, so we don’t know if he’ll step on the field. The QB to replace Mahomes is Chad Henne, an 11-year veteran, who’s been a backup his whole career.
Kansas City will most likely have power in the offense as RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire and WR Sammy Watkins seem to be returning, after being listed as questionable earlier in the week.
Looking at the defense, they are at a similar level as the Bills. They had matchups with tight scores. Very few were over 10 points. In the rankings, they are basically one spot ahead of the Bills in rushing and passing yards allowed. But the Chiefs’ defense seems a little more unstable.

Buffalo Bills vs Kansas City Chiefs 2021 AFC Championship Expert Pick
This could be a tough one, solely based on the fact the Patrick Mahomes might or might not play. The Chiefs will definitely want to defend the title, but it seems that it won’t be the case and not lose by much for it to happen.
I’m going with the Buffalo Bills on this one. They want to shake off last week’s performance against the Ravens and they haven’t been to the Super Bowl since 1994, which was Super Bowl XXVIII against the Cowboys, to whom they lost. Having four Super Bowl losses hangs heavy for the Bills. And if they are able to beat the Chiefs and make it to Super Bowl LV, it’s going an interesting end of the season. No doubt.
