Why Bet on the St. Louis Blues?

Ville Husso gave up five goals on 36 shots in the loss. Husso was sensational in the opening period when he stopped all 15 shots as the Blues led 1-0 despite being outshot 15-3. But things fell apart in the second when Colorado scored four times including three in 102 seconds. Husso is 1-4 having lost his last four after a Game 1 shutout win in the opening round against Minnesota. He has given up 18 goals on 118 shots in the last four games. He will continue to start with Jordan Binnington injured.

David Perron scored a pair of goals in the loss. Perron has set a career best in the playoffs as he has nine goals, besting his seven goals scored in the Stanley Cup winning season of 2019. The two goals give him 13 points in just 10 games as he has been the offensive star for the Blues this postseason.

It was Perron’s fifth career multi-goal playoff game with the Blues, trailing Brett Hull (13 GP), Vladimir Tarasenko (9 GP) and Bernie Federko (7 GP) for the most in franchise history. It was Perron’s fourth multi-goal game of the 2022 playoffs and tied Hull (4 GP in 1991 & 1990) for the most in a single postseason in Blues history.

Teams that take a 3-1 lead are 296-31 (.905) winning a best-of-7 NHL playoff series, including 0-1 in the 2022 first round. The Avs have lost only 11 times all season at home (once in these playoffs). They finish it off.

Why Bet on the Colorado Avalanche?

Colorado took Game 4 in St. Louis 6-3 on Monday to take a 3-1 series lead. Defenseman Erik Johnson scored the Avs’ opening goal. It was the first point of the second round for Johnson who had three assists in four games in the opening round against Nashville. Johnson’s wrist shot from the point eluded a screened Ville Husso in the St. Louis net. The former Blue had eight goals and 25 points in 77 regular season games this season.

Fellow blueliner Devon Toews scored his fourth goal of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Only two different defensemen in Avalanche/Nordiques history tallied more in a single postseason: Rob Blake with 6 (in 2001 & ’01) and Sandis Ozolinsh with 5 (in 1996 & 2000).

Nazem Kadri had his first career playoff hat trick as well as an assist. It was the NHL’s seventh hat trick of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, the most in a single postseason since 1996 (also 7). Kadri, who fell one point shy of the Avalanche/Nordiques record for most in a playoff game, became the eighth different player in franchise history to score a postseason hat trick and the first-ever on the road by a Colorado skater. The only other three-goal performance by an Avalanche player in the past 24 years also came against the Blues after Nathan MacKinnon did so in Game 2 of 2021 first round.

“I wanted to come out tonight and really put a mark on this game,” said Kadri, who also had an assist. ” … I tried to do that as best as possible. Sometimes you’ve got to be patient and you’ve got to wait. I was able to strike early in the second period and was able to get the mojo going, in terms of individually and as a team, so it felt amazing. Especially to do it on the road, it was pure.”

It took eight games but Mikko Rantanen finally found the back of the net in this postseason for the Avs. Rantanen scored into the empty net with just two seconds remaining. He scored 36 times in the regular season so getting the goal should give him renewed confidence. Rantanen has a goal and 10 points in eight playoff games thus far.

Alex Newhook and Jack Johnson made their respective 2022 playoffs debuts for Colorado. Newhook drew in the lineup in place of Andre Burakovsky (undisclosed injury) and posted an assist. Johnson took Samuel Girard’s spot after Girard suffered a playoff-ending broken sternum in Game 3.

Darcy Kuemper stopped 17-of-20 shots in the win. Kuemper saw his 2022 playoff record improve to 5-1 with the victory. He has a 2.14 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
