Why Bet on the Carolina Hurricanes?

The lone goal for the Hurricanes in Game 3 came from Nino Niederreiter. Niederreiter’s fourth goal of the playoffs cut Carolina’s deficit to 2-1 at the 8:18 mark of the second period, but that was as close as they would come. Jordan Staal and Brendan Smith picked up the assists on the play. Smith, who spent 2016-17 to 2020-21 with the Rangers, recorded a point in his third straight playoff game. The only defenseman in Hurricanes/Whalers history to have a longer postseason point streak is Frantisek Kaberle (4 GP in 2006).

Carolina went 0-for-3 on the power play in the effort, keeping their struggles on the man advantage at the forefront of discussion. They are 0-for-7 on the power play this series. Rod Brind’Amour said post-game that he liked what the units were able to produce, citing a couple hit posts as chances that he liked, just didn’t go in.

Antti Raanta made 30 saves on 32 shots in the loss as he was looking for a fourth straight win. The franchise record for consecutive playoff wins by a goaltender is seven by Cam Ward in 2006. Raanta has played in nine games this postseason. Sunday was the seventh in which he allowed two goals or fewer.

Why Bet on the New York Rangers?

New York was a 3-1 home winner in Game 3 on Sunday – and that has been the highest-scoring game of the series. Why oddsmakers dropped the total to 5 for Game 4. Chris Kreider scored the game-winning goal, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead at the 5:55 mark of the second period. He didn’t have a point in the first two games of New York’s second-round series. Kreider is up to six goals and eight points in 10 matches this postseason.

Kreider, who eclipsed Mark Messier’s franchise record for career game-winning goals earlier this postseason, netted his third game-winning goal of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. Only three players in Rangers history have had more in a single postseason: Frank Boucher (4 in 1928), Brian Leetch (4 in 1994) and Messier (4 in 1994). Kreider scored his 30th career playoff goal and surpassed Messier (29) for the second most in Rangers history, trailing only Rod Gilbert (34).

Mika Zibanejad had a goal and assist and boosted his 2022 playoff totals to 13 points. The last Rangers player to have more points through 10 games in a postseason was Jaromir Jagr (5-10—15 in 2008). Star defenseman Adam Fox had an assist and it was his 11th point of these playoffs. The only Rangers defensemen with more in a single postseason in the past 26 years are Ryan McDonagh (17 in 2014) and Dan Girardi (12 in 2012).

Igor Shesterkin turned aside 43 shots in the victory, his first career 40-save win in the postseason, and has stopped 339 shots for New York during its current playoff run – the most by a Rangers goaltender through his first 10 games of a postseason (since 1955-56 when shots on goal were first tracked), besting Mike Richter’s mark in 1997 (329). Shesterkin improved to 11-1 in his career when making 40-plus saves in a game (regular season and playoffs combined), with his only loss coming in New York’s triple overtime loss to Pittsburgh in the first round.

New York’s four-game home playoff win streak is the team’s longest such run since 2017 when it also won four.
