Why Bet on the Cleveland Browns?

The Cleveland Browns needed a win in Week 9 to keep pace with the rest of their division rivals and they got that in triumphant fashion with a 41-16 domination of the neighboring Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns are now tied for third place with the Bengals in the AFC North standings, with all four teams in the division having winning records entering the second half of the season.

Cincinnati had no answers for Cleveland’s well-balanced attack. Baker Mayfield had an efficient afternoon throwing the ball, finishing with 14 completions on 21 attempts for 218 passing yards, two touchdowns and not one interception. Stud back Nick Chubb also had a huge day on the ground in his second game back from injury, racking up 137 rushing yards and a pair of TDs on just 14 carries.

The Browns’ defense has clamped down over the past three weeks as well, holding their opponents to an average of just 15 points allowed per game. What they can do to improve and take their D to the next level is generate more turnovers. Cleveland’s eight takeaways are tied for the third-worst mark in the league.

Why Bet on the New England Patriots?

Speaking of defense, head coach Bill Belichick has his New England Patriots playing out of their minds of late thanks in large part to stellar defensive efforts. This past Sunday, the Patriots shut down the Panthers in Carolina, 24-6, to pick up back-to-back road victories and their third straight win overall.

New England’s stop unit is currently ranked fourth in points allowed (18.9 PAPG) and ninth in yards surrendered per contest (340.3 YAPG). On top of that, the team forced three Carolina turnovers to bring their season total to 16 takeaways (fourth in the NFL); twice as many forced TOs than the Browns’ defense to date.

On the other hand, rookie QB Mac Jones had another shaky outing under center. Jones threw his seventh pick of the season whilst finishing with just 139 yards and one TD on 12-of-18 passing. The ‘Bama gunslinger also lost a fumble that afternoon, as he’s been accountable for over half of the Patriots’ 14 turnovers this season. On the bright side, the Pats amassed 151 rushing yards against the Panthers, giving them another angle of attack with the passing game still being tenuous at best.

Browns vs. Patriots Betting Trends

  • The Browns are 3-3 on the road this year, including last season’s playoffs (5-1 ATS).
  • The Browns are 1-7 in the last eight meetings against New England since 2001 (2-6 ATS).
  • The totals went over in four of Cleveland’s last six road games.
  • The Patriots are just 1-4 at home this season (2-3 ATS).
  • The Pats are stunningly 16-2 in the last 18 games against teams from the AFC North (13-4-1 ATS).
  • The totals went over in four of New England’s last five games in general.

Browns vs. Patriots Expert Betting Predictions

The Browns have a more well-rounded roster, whereas the Patriots have winning momentum working in their favor. As what the current odds would suggest, this intriguing matchup is certainly a toss-up, with the Pats’ home-field advantage serving as more of a crutch for them based on recent trends and Cleveland’s inconsistency adding even more volatility to our predictions for this game.
