Why Bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got right back to business and came away with an expected victory in Week 1 over the Dallas Cowboys, 19-3. That blowout victory in Arlington was a resounding statement for Tampa Bay, which has had back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins and a Super Bowl victory with TB12 at the helm.
Brady had a relatively pedestrian outing, though, as he went 18-of-27 for 212 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Rather than challenging the Cowboys’ secondary, the Bucs got a huge performance out of running back Leonard Founette, who finished the game with 21 carries for 127 rushing yards.
What really stood out about the Buccaneers’ impressive victory is that the defense limited a potent Dallas offense to a lone field goal, under 200 passing yards (thanks in part to Dak Prescott’s sudden hand injury as well), and 0-for-5 on fourth-down conversions. This Tampa Bay defense is as impenetrable as they come in the NFL, which is why the team gets the slight edge in Week 2 as a road favorite.
Why Bet on the New Orleans Saints?
It wasn’t pretty, but the New Orleans Saints clawed out of a huge lead against another division rival the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend. Down 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Saints would come to life late and score 17 unanswered points, capped off with kicker Will Lutz’s 51-yard game-winning field goal.
It was a terrific return to action for Jameis Winston, who missed the latter half of the 2021 season with a season-ending knee injury and came back in Week 1 of the current campaign with a turnover-free outing of 269 passing yards and a pair of TD scores. Backup quarterback and gadget-play extraordinaire Taysom Hill also had himself a day with four rushing attempts for 81 yards and a trip to the end zone.
New Orleans’ defense was one of the best in the league the previous season. However, it did not look as good this past Sunday, surrendering 416 offensive yards to an Atlanta offense led by Winston’s fellow draftmate-turned-journeyman QB, Marcus Mariota. Nevertheless, forcing two huge turnovers against the Falcons came through in the clutch and the team will need more takeaway opportunities to weather the Bucs’ offensive assault.

- The totals have gone under three of Tampa Bay’s last four games away from home.
- The Saints are 1-4 in their last five home games (SU/ATS).
- The Saints went 2-3 as home dogs last season (SU/ATS).
- The totals have gone under in each of the last four games played in The Big Easy.
Buccaneers vs. Saints Expert Betting Predictions
There’s no denying that the Bucs looked more impressive in Week 1 than the Saints. However, New Orleans has had Tampa Bay’s number for the past few years and the Saints didn’t raise any alarms with how they performed on opening week outside of a slow start. That being said, consider this huge divisional clash a 50/50 toss-up that shouldn’t be missed.
