It’s been a wild start to the new NFL season, as the supposedly-rebuilding Seattle Seahawks find themselves atop the NFC West standings as the only team in the division to pick up a victory in Week 1. The San Francisco 49ers, meanwhile, did not get the results they expected from Trey Lance’s first official start as their starting quarterback. Will the Niners pick up their first win of the season, or will the Seahawks stay surprisingly hot?

Why Bet on the Seattle Seahawks?

Against all odds, the Seattle Seahawks delivered arguably the most stunning upset in Week 1’s Monday Night Football showdown against a Denver Broncos team that many predicted as a strong Super Bowl contender. However, Russell Wilson was thoroughly outclassed by his former team, as the Seahawks secured a massive 17-16 upset over the Broncos.

Leave it to forgotten journeyman QB Geno Smith to spoil Wilson’s revenge trip to Seattle. Smith played his best football since his collegiate days in West Virginia by going 23-of-28 for 195 passing yards and two touchdown passes with not a single turnover. Running back Rashad Penny also had a decent outing, averaging five yards-per-carry and finishing with 60 rushing yards on 12 touches.

Seattle’s defense still needs some work, as this shell of the old Legion of Boom squad allowed 433 offensive yards to the Broncos and was relatively bailed out by Denver’s incompetent clock management late in the contest. Still, forcing a pair of Denver turnovers is a good sign that the D is still playing spirited football for what could be Pete Carroll’s last hurrah in the Emerald City.

Talk about raining on one’s parade. Trey Lance had a start best forgotten in Week 1 this past Sunday, as the San Francisco 49ers suffered a road upset to the Chicago Bears, 19-10, on a rain-drenched afternoon on Soldier Field.

Lance, the third-overall pick from last year’s NFL Draft, was handed the reins to the San Francisco offense as the team’s starting QB for the entire 2022 season. However, the two-time FCS champion out of North Dakota State had a lackluster debut as a full-fledged starting QB, completing just 13 of 28 passes for 164 yards and a pick. Lance did lead his team in rushing with 13 carries for 54 rushing yards, displaying his dual-threat skills that will only improve as the season goes on.

Unfortunately, Lance may have to do more with his feet in Week 2 considering the injury suffered by starting running back Elijah Mitchell. Then again, the Niners have a deep backfield roster thanks to multi-talented wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who finished with eight carries for 52 rushing yards and with the Niners racking up 176 rushing yards against the Bears as a whole. It’s also interesting to see if San Fran’s defense will regain proper footing this coming Sunday following the slippery affair in the Windy City.

The Seahawks have won four straight meetings against San Francisco (3-1 ATS).
The totals went over in three of those four most recent Seahawks-Niners matchups.

The Niners went 2-5 against their NFC West rivals last season, including the playoffs (3-4 ATS).
The totals went under in three of the last four games played in Levi’s Stadium.

Seahawks vs. 49ers Expert Betting Predictions

As the trends would have it, Seattle’s actually been the better team in this divisional rivalry of late. Then again, the Seahawks still had Russell Wilson under center during that span. That being said, the Niners will likely rebound with a much-needed victory in Week 2, albeit failing to cover the relatively large spread at that.
