Why Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs reached the AFC Championship Game for the fourth straight season in 2021 and would’ve made the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year as well if not for the Cincinnati Bengals’ cinderella run and overtime victory. Nevertheless, Kansas City remains one of the heavy favorites to represent the AFC once more for as long as superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is running the show.

Last season, Mahomes completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 4,839 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns; numbers that were enough to put him in the MVP conversation yet again. Unfortunately, the Chiefs could not retain their top wide receiver in Tyreek Hill this offseason, which leaves a huge void in their passing corps. Then again, KC still has the best tight end in the NFL in Travis Kelce, who finished with a 1,000-yard receiving campaign for the sixth straight season whilst also hauling in nine receiving TDs.

Kansas City’s defense, on the other hand, was middling at best last season and the team did not make groundbreaking moves this offseason to upgrade this side of the roster. Then again, who needs defense when arguably the best player in football right now in Mahomes is still winning countless shootouts in spite of his team’s unremarkable D?

Why Bet on the Arizona Cardinals?

This is an important season for the Arizona Cardinals, to say the least. They’ve improved year-on-year in each of the last three seasons under the pairing of head coach Kliff Kingsbury and star quarterback Kyler Murray, even making the playoffs for the first time last season. However, several off-field issues are working against the Cardinals entering the new campaign.

Murray, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and former Heisman Trophy winner, recently signed a contract extension with the Cards but not before tensions arose via Murray’s indirect jab at the team’s management on Twitter. Arizona will also not have stud wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins suit up in Week 1 as Hopkins is set to serve a six-game ban for PEDs to start the season.

In turn, a lot more is expected out of running back James Conner and newly-signed wideout Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. Conner’s number was called often in red-zone opportunities and finished the 2021 season with 15 rushing TDs. Meanwhile, Brown, a former first-round selection, is eager to join a pass-happy team after a couple of lackluster seasons in Baltimore.

Chiefs vs. Cardinals Betting Trends

  • The Chiefs went 5-3 on the road in the 2021 regular season (4-4 ATS).
  • The Chiefs are 4-1 in their last five meetings against Arizona since 2002 (2-3 ATS).
  • The totals went over in each of Kansas City’s last four road games.
  • The Cardinals went 3-5 at home last season (2-6 ATS), with all five of those home losses coming in succession until the end of their campaign.
  • The Cards went 4-1 against teams from the AFC last season (SU/ATS).
  • The totals went over in three of the last four games played in Glendale.

Chiefs vs. Cardinals Expert Betting Predictions

With both teams having questionable defenses, expect this Week 1 showdown to be all about Mahomes and Murray trading blows all afternoon. The Cards may have the home-field advantage, but the Chiefs’ experience will prevail in the end with the victory in hand. Arizona keeps the score close enough to cover the spread, though.
