Why Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?
Kansas City leads the all-time series 66-53-2. The teams will play again in KC on Dec. 12. Last season, they split the two meetings. The Chiefs won their first-ever game in Las Vegas 35-31. Patrick Mahomes passed for 348 yards and led two go-ahead scoring drives in the fourth quarter. He hit Travis Kelce on a 22-yard TD throw with 28 seconds left. Jason Witten’s TD catch from Derek Carr had put the Raiders up with 1:43 to play. Carr passed for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
Kansas City (5-4) caught a huge break last week in facing Green Bay without Aaron Rodgers – and the Chiefs barely won 13-7. Patrick Mahomes didn’t throw a pick for the first time in several games but didn’t look overly sharp, completing 20-of-37 attempts for 166 yards and one touchdown. He averaged a crazy-low 4.48 yards per attempt. Mahomes has averaged fewer than 6.0 yards per attempt in four of his last five starts but says he will take deep shots if available.
“I think, just in general, even when we’re not connecting on them, it still tells that defense they have to back up, and it opens up stuff underneath,” Mahomes said. “Taking those shots during the game, even if they’re not connecting, it kind of puts a little bit of a fear into the defense to know they can’t start coming up; they can’t start jumping some of our routes.”
No. 1 running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is likely to return this week. Edwards-Helaire has missed the last four weeks with a sprained MCL. He hit 100 rushing yards in the last two full games he played and the Chiefs have met that total as a team in two of the four games they’ve played without him.
Last week’s win was the 226th regular-season victory for Andy Reid, matching Curly Lambeau for the fifth-most in league history. Only Don Shula (328), George Halas (318), Bill Belichick (284) and Tom Landry (250) recorded more victories during their careers. The Chiefs became the second original AFL franchise to reach 500 all-time regular-season wins, trailing only the Patriots.
Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?
The Raiders have had a strange few weeks as coach Jon Gruden stepped aside, 2020 first-round receiver Henry Ruggs III was released after being involved in a DUI fatality, and 2020 first-round cornerback Damon Arnette was released this week after video surfaced this weekend of Arnette making death threats while brandishing firearms. Arnette, 25, had been on injured reserve since Oct. 9. A surprise selection at No. 19 out of Ohio State, Arnette played in just 13 games, with seven starts, since the start of last season and had three total passes defended and 29 tackles, 23 solo.
All the distractions seemed to catch up to the Raiders last Sunday in a 23-16 loss at the Giants. Carr threw two interceptions, including a pick-six early in the third quarter, and was strip-sacked while driving for a potential game-tying touchdown and PAT inside the Giants’ 20-yard line with 37 seconds to play. He also overthrew a wide-open Darren Waller in the end zone in the first half.
This game could be the debut of DeSean Jackson. The speedy receiver was recently released by the Rams. Jackson has led the NFL in yards per catch average four times — in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018 — and was averaging 27.6 yards per catch, on 8 receptions, for the Rams. He has 620 catches for 10,877 yards and 57 TDs in 167 career games.
