Detroit Lions 2022 Top MVP Sleeper Pick

By Carlos Chacon

For the fourth consecutive season, the Detroit Lions finished their campaign with a losing record, winning just three of 17 games in 2021. However, many consider Detroit’s outlook to be much better in the second year under head coach Dan Campbell, and there are even a couple of names who could turn out to be the best player in the league should the Lions turn into a competitive, playoff-bound unit.

Nitrobetting is ready to equip its bettors with the latest news, NFL futures odds, and special features for the duration of the 2022 NFL offseason. This time, let’s speculate for a moment and predict a sleeper pick out of the Detroit Lions who could win the NFL MVP award this coming season, as well as the Lions’ latest odds to win Super Bowl LVII.

No Time to Goff Around

It was a strange transitional season for the Lions in 2021. They got a new, more respected head head coach in Dan Campbell, but also agreed to part ways with their long-time franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford, whom they saw finally win the Lombardi Trophy albeit as a Los Angeles Ram. In turn, Campbell had to make the most out of the situation in the Motor City and, after a miserable 0-8 start, won three of their last six games to save some face.

The Lions got former Rams QB Jared Goff as part of the Stafford trade and the former first-overall pick had a mixed bag of results. The two-time Pro Bowl selection finished with a career-best 67.2 percent completion percentage last season, but did throw just 19 touchdown passes to eight interceptions whilst putting up a little over 3,200 passing yards. In turn, Goff is a somewhat peculiar sleeper candidate to win the 2022 MVP award at (+10,000).

If one is in search of a better MVP sleeper candidate out of the Lions organization, then perhaps taking a crack at young wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown is a better call. The fourth-round rookie out of USC gave Detroit fans a lot to cheer for by the second of of the previous season with his big-play potential downfield, finishing with 912 receiving yards and five touchdowns. St. Brown would’ve been a thousand-yard receiver had he been named a starter in the first eight games of the season, which is why he’s currently a trendy (+35,000) dark horse pick to win the coveted MVP award during his very promising sophomore campaign.

Updated Lions’ Super Bowl 57 Odds

As of this writing, the Lions are +10,000 longshots to win Super Bowl LVII; the third-worst odds among all NFL teams currently tied with the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Detroit also has the longest odds to win the NFC North division title this season at +1,000, with the aforementioned Bears just slightly ahead of the Lions in the preseason projections at +800.
