Dolphins vs. Buccaneers 2021 NFL Week 5 Odds, Preview and Pick

By Carlos Chacon

The Dolphins and the Buccaneers meet this Sunday in Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season. As of this writing, Tampa Bay is tied with Carolina for the best record in the NFC South, with both teams sporting 3-1 records. The Bucs recovered from a Week 3 loss to the Rams with a win in Foxborough.

It was a close game against the Patriots last week, but the Bucs did enough to secure the win. Meanwhile, the Dolphins haven’t won a game since their opener. Now on a three-game losing streak, the Dolphins can still get a tighter grip at second place in the AFC East if they produce a win in this contest.

Why Bet on the Miami Dolphins?

It’s been over three weeks since the Dolphins secured a win. They came close to a victory in Week 3 against the Raiders but eventually lost in that game 31-28 in overtime. The Dolphins then tried again in Week 4, but they still got victimized by the Indianapolis Colts at home, 27-17. Jacoby Brissett should continue to start for the Dolphins, with Tua Tagovailia still on the injured reserve.

It’s not going to be easy for Brissett to break through Tampa Bay’s defense, but that doesn’t mean Miami is completely devoid of weapons that can put a dent on the Bucs. For one, Brissett has some wheels under him. He’s mobile enough to avoid pass rushers or pick up yards with his feet.

DeVante Parker and Jaylen Waddle are athletic wideouts that can break out for big plays. Parker had 77 receiving yards and a touchdown on just four receptions against the Colts. Miami’s defense features cornerback Jason McCourty who has experience playing with Tom Brady in New England before. He should have at least an idea on who to read Brady’s tendencies.

Why Bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Tom Brady played against his old team last week and came out with a 2-point win by the final whistle. They did well to hold onto the lead after the Pats almost tied the game in the first half. Brady recorded 269 yards on 22-of-43 passing. Mike Evans topped the receiving unit with 75 yards on 7 receptions. Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin had over 50 yards each with a combined 10 receptions.

On the rushing side, Leonard Fournette produced a team-high 91 yards on 20 carries, while Ronald Jones II had 25 yards and the only touchdown of the game on 6 carries.

On defense, Richard Sherman was the busiest man of the night with 7 solo tackles. Antoine Winfeld Jr. and Lavonte David held the line with 7 tackles (5 solo) each with the former collecting the only interception of the team. William Gholston and Shaquil Barrett combined for 2 sacks and Joe Tryon had 2 sacks to go with his 2 solo tackles.

The Buccaneers have a healthy offense coming into the game, which is good news for Bruce Arians. However, left cornerback Carlton Davis suffered a quad injury last, putting him on the list of questionable players this weekend.

Dolphins vs. Buccaneers Expert Betting Predictions

The Miami Dolphins come into the game as underdogs, and they have to be at their best to match the Buccaneers. Covering the spread should be possible, but getting the win is a tougher assignment. Meanwhile, the hosts look solid after three wins in four games. Tom Brady remains the key player of the game, and if he starts to get his footing, there’s more pressure coming the Dolphins’ way. Ultimately, this is brewing to become one of the more interesting matches of the weekend should Miami keep things close.
