The Eagles are now led by a young quarterback at the helm in Jalen Hurts, while the Falcons still have Matt Ryan running the show on offense albeit with diminished options in the receiving game compared to the previous season. Why Bet on the Philadelphia Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles ended their streak of winning seasons at three when they finished in the bottom of the NFC East with a dismal 4-11-1 record in 2020. The team overhauled its core elements from its 2017 Super Bowl-winning run by shipping underperforming quarterback Carson Wentz and head coach Doug Pederson in favor of now second-year QB Jalen Hurts and new coach Nick Siriani.

Hurts displayed moments of brilliance in his four full starts in 2021, finishing the previous season with over 1,000 yards passing and six touchdowns to go with 63 rushing attempts for 354 yards and three more TDs on the ground. However, the former collegiate standout did average one interception per game as a starter and will need to be better at taking care of the ball this season. Sadly, Hurts’ supporting cast on offense isn’t very encouraging, and Philadelphia’s defense isn’t as imposing as it once was, either. This puts a ton of pressure on the 23-year-old to carry the Eagles on his shoulders beginning in Week 1.

Why Bet on the Atlanta Falcons?

Speaking of a quarterback carrying his team on his own, Matt Ryan has been doing this for the Atlanta Falcons for what feels like ages. However, Atlanta finally bottomed out last season with a disappointing 4-12 mark, signaling the release of head coach Dan Quinn and the arrival of long-time Titans coaching staff member Arthur Smith.

One of the Falcons’ biggest losses in the offseason is the departure of remarkable wideout Julio Jones, who ironically took his talents to Music City. But thanks to their poor showing in 2020, they received the fourth-overall pick in this year’s draft and nabbed Kyle Pitts out of Florida. There will be huge expectations placed on Pitts considering that he’s the highest-drafted tight end in NFL Draft history, but having Ryan as the man targeting him downfield should get his maiden NFL campaign off to a glowing start.

Sadly, Atlanta’s defense, which ranked in the bottom five of the league in average yards allowed per game last season, saw little to no major upgrades from the draft and the offseason.

Eagles vs. Falcons Betting Trends

  • The Eagles are on a six-game road losing streak and went 1-7 away from Philly last season (SU/ATS).
  • The Eagles are just 1-5 in their last six games against teams from the NFC South 2-4 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in seven of the Eagles’ last 10 regular-season games in general.
  • The Falcons went just 2-6 at home last season themselves (3-5 ATS).
  • The Falcons are 4-2 in their last six regular-season meetings against Philadelphia (SU/ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in each of the Falcons’ last four games against the Eagles.

Eagles vs. Falcons Expert Betting Predictions

With more experience on offense, the Falcons are understandably favored to win their home opener against the Eagles. On the other hand, Philly is pretty much starting with a clean slate this season, making their first few games of the 2021 season unpredictable enough to consider the team as weekly underdogs in September with high upside to surprise beginning with this Week 1 matchup on the road.
