Early 2022 NFL Division Odds and Picks

Soon, NFL teams will head to training camps, then the preseason will start, and before we know it the NFL’s first regular season game this year will happen. Mid-June is the time for NFL handicappers to start thinking about the upcoming season. See below for odds on the four teams in all eight divisions as well as analysis and an early pick to win each division.

AFC East

• Buffalo Bills -230
• New England Patriots +425
• Miami Dolphins +475
• New York Jets +1800

Buffalo is a massive favorite. What’s interesting is that the Patriots and Dolphins almost offer the same odds. Neither team is as good as Buffalo. Both teams could challenge the Bills for AFC East supremacy. Still, challenging the Super Bowl favorites and beating them are two different things.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Buffalo Bills

AFC North

• Cleveland Browns +165
• Cincinnati Bengals +210
• Baltimore Ravens +220
• Pittsburgh Steelers +850

Cleveland may not even have a starting quarterback. Deshaun Watson has mounting legal issues and the Browns and Panthers are on the cusp of a deal that will send Baker Mayfield to Carolina. +165 are underlay odds. The Ravens odds are better and so are Pittsburgh’s but neither is as good of a team as the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincy improved along the offensive line by signing RT La’el Collins away from the Dallas Cowboys. That alone makes the Bengals the team to back to win the North.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Cincinnati Bengals

AFC South

• Indianapolis Colts -110
• Tennessee Titans +145
• Jacksonville Jaguars +600
• Houston Texans +2500

It’s hard not to love the Indianapolis Colts. Just like last season, the rushing attack should be downright scary. Matt Ryan can still ball and the defense is solid. The window for the Titans may have closed because A.J. Brown is one of the reasons Ryan Tannehill had so much success under center and now Brown is an Eagle. Houston is a mess. There’s no reason to even consider the Texans. That leaves us with the Jaguars. Is Jacksonville good enough to beat the Colts and win the AFC South? Probably not. But at +600, they’re worth a few bucks.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars

AFC West

• Kansas City Chiefs +150
• Los Angeles Chargers +240
• Denver Broncos +250
• Las Vegas Raiders +700

This a roll the dice division, meaning roll the dice and go with the team whose logo ends up on top. The Chiefs are the class of the division, but they aren’t much better than the Chargers, and the Broncos have Russell Wilson and a great defense. But although all four teams can win the AFC West only the Raiders offer overlay odds. Josh McDaniel will get the most out of the Derek Carr to Davante Adams connection. Las Vegas’ is much better than people give it credit for being and the odds are sweet.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Las Vegas Raiders

NFC East

• Dallas Cowboys -110
• Philadelphia Eagles +220
• Washington Commanders +500
• New York Giants +900

If you don’t like Washington or the Giants, your choice to win the NFC East will come down to which quarterback is better suited to lead his team to a division title? Dak Prescott or Jalen Hurts? Prescott is proven. Edge Micah Parsons will be better in his second season. The chalk takes the NFC East.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Dallas Cowboys

NFC North

• Green Bay Packers -170
• Minnesota Vikings +200
• Chicago Bears +800
• Detroit Lions +1200

The odds on Green Bay are much too low, but it’s hard to find an alternative. Chicago and Detroit don’t look good enough. If you’re deciding between the two, the Lions are the better play. But neither should beat the Packers. The Vikings can, but Minnesota has a new head coach. Sometimes, that doesn’t work out.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: Green Bay Packers

NFC South

• Tampa Bay Buccaneers -300
• New Orleans Saints +325
• Carolina Panthers +850
• Atlanta Falcons +1200

Atlanta is better than people think. The Panthers aren’t. Neither are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s crazy that the Bucs offer -300. Sure, the Saints have a new head coach and a quarterback coming off an injury, but the Saints have a fearsome defense, have beaten the Bucs in 4 straight regular season games, and got much better through the draft and free agency. N’Awlins gets it done.

Early 2022 NFL Division Pick: New Orleans Saints

NFC West

• Los Angeles Rams +135
• San Francisco 49ers +160
• Arizona Cardinals +400
• Seattle Seahawks +1200

Even though they’re the favorites, the Rams might be an overlay. Los Angeles is a better team than the San Francisco 49ers. They’re a much better team than the Arizona Cardinals. Seattle isn’t a bad play at +1200 because their defense is decent and they have a good rushing attack. But if you’re looking for an early pick offering much better odds than they should, it’s the defending Super Bowl Champions.
