Nobody would’ve foreseen that the upcoming game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Commanders would end up being a pivotal contest for the two franchises that were left for dead during the preseason. Why Bet on the Atlanta Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons finally put an end to their two-game skid by barely escaping Week 11 with a 27-24 home win over the Chicago Bears. With that victory, the Falcons remain a half-game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the division lead whilst also dealing a huge blow to the Bears’ chances of making the playoffs.

Marcus Mariota, who completed just 13 of his 20 passes for 131 yards and a passing touchdown, didn’t need to do much through the air with his team running the ball well. Atlanta racked up 149 rushing yards as a team with the duo of Cordarrelle Patterson and Tyler Allgeier splitting reps for a combined 107 rushing yards on just 18 carries. Mariota also ran 13 times for 25 yards and a rushing TD against an imposing yet suddenly hapless Chicago front seven.

Atlanta’s defense, on the other hand, still hasn’t improved from the weeks prior. The team has a bottom-five defensive unit in almost all major categories, which means it’s up to the feisty offense to carry the Falcons to a victory over a seemingly beatable Washington squad this Sunday.

Why Bet on the Washington Commanders?

Make that back-to-back wins and victories in four of the last five for the Washington Commanders, who are slowly creeping up the crowded NFC East standings as a dark horse pick to make the playoffs. Only a game-and-a-half separates Washington from second place in the division currently occupied by the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants, with the latter now on a brief decline.

Although the Commanders picked up a 23-10 victory in Week 11, it was against a lackluster Houston Texans team already tanking for next year’s draft. Nevertheless, backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke leads his team to spirited efforts on the field. Heinicke finished with just 191 passing yards and no TD passes, but playing clean football and let his team’s strong running game do all the talking as Washington amassed 153 rushing yards against Houston.

Above all else, the Commanders’ defense has really stepped up. Over the last six games, their D has allowed just an average of 15.8 points to their opponents. This includes stellar defensive performances against the Eagles and Packers, as well as the Vikings even on a losing effort. Washington’s stop unit could be in for an upgrade as early as this week as well with former Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young activated from the injured reserve list to give his team a boost for a stunning playoff push.

Falcons vs. Commanders Betting Trends

  • The Falcons are 1-6 in the last seven road games (3-3-1 ATS).
  • The Falcons are 1-4 in the last five outings against teams from the NFC East (2-3 ATS).
  • The totals went over in three of Atlanta’s last five games in general.
  • The Commanders are 2-5 in the last seven home games (3-3-1 ATS).
  • The Commanders have won each of their last six contests as favorites to win (5-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in eight of the last 10 games played in FedEx Field.

Falcons vs. Commanders Expert Betting Predictions

There’s no telling what these two teams are capable of every week as both have been surprisingly competent compared to their low expectations from the preseason. Washington has been on a better stretch of late than Atlanta, but a relatively wide point spread as home favorites might be a red flag for the Commanders’ backers. That said, taking the Falcons to cover the spread even in a losing effort might be the better call.
