Why Bet on the Florida Gators?

Three straight winning seasons under head coach Nick Mullen put the Florida Gators as strong contenders for the national title. While a 35-14 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls in Week 1 is a great opening statement for the No. 13 Gators, there appears to be some controversy bubbling up within their quarterback ranks.

Incumbent starter Emory Jones had a lackluster day throwing the ball in the season opener, going just 17-for-27 for 113 passing yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. With Jones struggling under center, redshirt freshman Anthony Richardson seized the opportunity to show what he’s made of and ran for 160 yards on just seven carries.

Luckily for the Gators, a weak opponent in Week 2 will give their coaching staff more time to assess their two signal-callers. Plus, Florida’s defense, which racked up six sacks against Florida Atlantic, will likely have a cakewalk containing the Owls’ inept offense this Saturday.

Why Bet on the South Florida Bulls?

Seeing that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won their first game of the new NFL season in dramatic fashion, the South Florida Bulls would want nothing but anyway to harness the Bucs’ winning formula after their abysmal showing in Week 1.

The Bulls were blanked by the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a humiliating fashion, 45-0. They went just 3-for-16 on third downs and committed three turnovers by way of picks from both of their QBs in Timmy McClain and Cade Fortin. Not to mention that USF’s defense gave up a whopping 525 offensive yards and six TDs to the Wolfpack.

Exactly how the Bulls will fare against an FBS powerhouse program such as Florida is anyone’s guess, but we’re inclined to believe that, to put it lightly, it will not go well. The Bulls, who didn’t have a single-player rush for over 26 yards in Week 1, need to find a running game in hopes of keeping the Gators’ offense off the field and not make bigger fools of themselves.

Florida vs. South Florida Betting Trends

  • The Gators are 10-2 in regular-season road games since the 2018 season (7-4-1 ATS).
  • The Gators are also 10-2 in games wherein they were favored to win by double digits (4-7-1 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in four of the Gators’ last five games as double-digit favorites.
  • The Bulls are 6-2 in their last eight regular-season home games, but just 2-6 against the spread in those contests.
  • The Bulls are 2-4 against teams from the SEC since 2002 (1-5 ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in four of those six games against the Southeastern Conference.

Florida vs. South Florida Expert Betting Predictions

To be frank, the line could actually be wider than the four-touchdown spread in favor of the Gators. That being said, perhaps the Bulls will be reenergized with their home opener for the season. This is especially considering that their record at home of late is a good sign that they can bounce back from last week’s humiliating defeat and well enough to cover the massive spread.
