Why Bet on the Fresno State Bulldogs?

For the first time in two years, the Fresno State Bulldogs failed to compete in the Mountain West Conference title game after a troubled 4-8 season in 2020 that was cut short by the global pandemic. Head coach Jeff Tedford wants to leave the previous season behind and start anew with his crew, and they did just that by shutting out the UConn Huskies in blowout fashion during last Saturday’s “Week 0” clash, 45-0.

Quarterback Jake Haener certainly gave the school a magnificent performance in the first game of Fresno State football’s centennial anniversary by throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns. The Bulldogs got the job done on both sides of the ball, as they racked up 538 yards on offense whilst holding UConn to just 107 yards and not a single score on the board. However, Fresno State will be in a tougher bout against an actual FCS powerhouse in Oregon this weekend. Can they sustain this success after a morale-boosting win over a Huskies team that is far from the ranks of successful programs in the nation?

Why Bet on the Oregon Ducks?

The Pac-12 was one of college football’s conferences that were hit the hardest by the global pandemic. And yet, the Oregon Ducks still found a way to win back-to-back conference titles under head coach Mario Cristobal despite finishing their 2020 campaign with a 4-3 overall record.

Thanks to that feat, the Ducks enter the 2021 season ranked No. 11 in the AP poll and with good reason. Many are high on quarterback Anthony Brown to deliver his finest performance in his senior year and his second season in Oregon. Brown has been hampered by a couple of serious injuries in the past, but the young signal-caller did throw two TD passes in just four pass attempts in last season’s Pac-12 Championship Game against USC. The Ducks went undefeated in two home games last season and had their supposed third home game last December cancelled due to the pandemic.

Fresno State vs. Oregon Betting Trends

  • The Bulldogs are 2-3 in their last five games as underdogs (3-2 ATS).
  • The Bulldogs are 2-5 in their last seven regular-season road games (3-4 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in six of the Bulldogs’ last nine games in general.
  • The Ducks have won 12 straight regular-season home games to date, but went just 6-6 against the spread.
  • The Ducks are 7-0 against Fresno State dating back to 1997 (3-3 ATS).
  • The totals have gone over in four of the Ducks’ last six head-to-head matchups against the Bulldogs.

Fresno State vs. Oregon Expert Betting Predictions

A seven-game unbeaten run against the Bulldogs should have the Ducks brimming with confidence this week that their campaign will be off to a strong start. Then again, Fresno State already beat them to the punch last week with a huge win of their own and should put up a better fight against Oregon compared to previous years. That being said, one shouldn’t be surprised if the Bulldogs manage to cover a three-touchdown spread and stay competitive all afternoon against the reigning Pac-12 champs.
