Golden Knights Win 2023 Stanley Cup Trophy

By Jeff Stinger

With an emphatic 9-3 victory in Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, the Vegas Golden Knights finally cemented their legacy as NHL champions. The Golden Knights won their maiden championship title faster than many hockey fans had expected and they are now poised to become a dynasty in the making.

Nitrobetting is here to turn your betting slapshots into winning goals with betting tips and news coverage throughout the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Final. This time, let’s recap the Vegas Golden Knights’ first-ever Stanley Cup victory and what it means for both the Knights and their Stanley Cup Final opponent, the Florida Panthers.

2023 Stanley Cup Final Recap

The Knights Go March-ing In

Ever since Jonathan Marchessault joined the debuting Vegas franchise in 2017, the Golden Knights have had massive success on the back of the undrafted Quebecois. Just six years later, Marchessault finds himself atop the hockey mountain with Lord Stanley’s prize in hand, as well as a much-deserved Conn Smythe Trophy.

Marchessault finished tied for the most points in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 25 and scored 13 goals throughout the postseason. Three of those goals were thrilling game-winners during their heated conference semifinal series against the Oilers. A ton of credit also goes to team captain Mark Stone (21 points in the playoffs; hat trick in Game 5) and journeyman goalie Adin Hill, who allowed no more than three goals in each of his starts in the Stanley Cup Final.

Panthers Licking Their Wounds

It’s bad enough to see a former Panther in Marchessault win the Stanley Cup after Florida made an unprecedented run to the Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers’ path to the grand finale was simply remarkable, as they had to beat a record-setting Bruins team in the first round, followed by potent offenses from the Maple Leafs and the Hurricanes in the succeeding Eastern Conference rounds.

Nevertheless, the Panthers’ first trip to the Stanley Cup Final since 1996 was a relatively successful one as their future remains bright. Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe still have a lot left in their respective tanks as All-Star-caliber standouts, and another fantastic campaign between the pipes from Sergei Bobrovsky is more than likely to happen in the next couple of seasons.

Everything’s Golden in the West in 2023

Many would be quick to assume that the Golden Knights’ championship win is the first major sports title in Sin City. However, we shouldn’t forget that the Las Vegas Aces won the WNBA title just last year, making them the first major sports team to bring a championship title to the desert. Regardless, this is nothing but fantastic news for the city of Las Vegas, especially with the Raiders of the NFL and soon the MLB’s Athletics also throwing their hats into the title mix.

It’s also funny to note how similar the NBA and NHL Playoffs played out (no pun intended). The Denver Nuggets were also the best team in the NBA Western Conference, faced an eighth-seeded Miami Heat squad, and beat the Heat in five games in the 2023 NBA Finals a day before the Knights closed out their own five-game Stanley Cup Final series. The sports gods sure had their coincidental thrills all set up this year.
