Green Bay Packers’ 2022 NFL Odds Update

By Carlos Chacon

Sometimes less is more in the NFL. That’s certainly the case for the Green Bay Packers, who are running it back in 2022 with the pending contract extension handed out to legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers and with the franchise tag about to be given to Rodgers’ partner in crime in wide receiver Davante Adams. As unexciting as Green Bay’s decisions have been this offseason, they still made a huge impact on the league’s landscape heading into the new season.

This time, let’s break down the Green Bay Packers’ odds to win Super Bowl 57 after the recent news confirming that Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are returning to Lambeau in the upcoming regular season.

One Last Run for the Rodgers-Adams Duo

Green Bay’s brass is adamant that having the tandem of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams back for the 2022 campaign is still the team’s best bet to win Super Bowl 57. One can’t fault the team for thinking that way, especially since there are few QB-WR duos in the league to have consistent success together as Rodgers and Adams.

The exact details of Rodgers’ extension have yet to be made public, but many experts speculate that his new four-year deal will make him the highest-paid QB in the NFL. Adams, meanwhile, is on a virtual one-year rental given the franchise tag. The Packers saved a bit of money this season by not committing to a long-term deal with Adams. However, their pockets will be mighty empty come the free agency period, which leads us to…

Salary Cap Concerns

Right now, the Packers are about $26.4 million over the cap limit, and that’s not even considering the additional $20 million tied up to Adams’ franchise tag. That being said, they’ll need to be very crafty this offseason in order to fall below the salary cap threshold.

Green Bay has plenty of options to mull over with their current standouts. Players such as Aaron Jones and David Bakhtiari are expected to have their contracts restructured, and contract extensions for defensive stalwarts Jaire Alexander, Preston Smith, and Adrian Amos are also probably in order. If the team’s holdouts come together to make the salary cap work at the expense of their respective payouts, the boys from Lambeau will remain a top Super Bowl contender this upcoming season.

The Packers aren’t in that bad of a cap situation as it appears on paper, but they’re definitely put in a win-now situation again in 2022 whilst sacrificing a ton of leverage in the near future.

Green Bay Packers’ Odds to Win Super Bowl 57

As of this writing, the Packers are priced at (+800) to win Super Bowl 57. They are the current front-runners yet to represent the NFC in the season finale yet again and with only the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills having better odds than them to date (both priced at +750 apiece).

Had it not been for the returns of Rodgers and Adams, Green Bay’s odds of winning the Lombardi Trophy would be much worse than it is right now, without a doubt. Expect the odds to shift after we know more about the Packers’ final roster following the offseason’s activities, including but not limited to the official free-agency period and the highly-anticipated 2022 NFL Draft.
