Why Bet on the Carolina Hurricanes?

Frederik Andersen stopped 16 shots for Carolina. The Hurricanes pulled him with 3:22 left, desperate for the tying goal, but barely even managed to test Bobrovsky the rest of the way. Carolina outshot Florida 25-7 over the final 40 minutes of play.”

The Hurricanes are 0-5 when dropping the first three. There has been 261 minutes, 38 seconds of hockey in this series — just over 13 periods, thanks to all the overtimes — and neither team has led by more than one goal at any time.

“It’s obviously high. We’ve got to find a way to put the puck in the back of the net. If we start with one win here and we continue to play like that, we’ll get a bounce and we’ll move on from there. It was right there again for us. We’ll take another stab at it, take Game 4 and go from there,” Carolina’s Jordan Staal said.

Why Bet on the Florida Panthers?

It’s quite a time to be a south Florida sports fan as the eighth-seeded Miami Heat are making a shocking run to the NBA Finals and the wild-card Florida Panthers are on the verge of reaching their second Stanley Cup Final in team history. In 1996, the Panthers were swept by Colorado.

All three games of this series have been decided by a goal after Florida won 1-0 on Monday at home for a 3-0 lead. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 32 shots for his first career playoff shutout. Bobrovsky is now 10-1 in his last 11 appearances and has been almost perfect in the last eight games. Going back to Game 1 of Round 2 against Toronto, Bobrovsky has not allowed more than two goals in any contest, with 296 saves on 309 shots — a .958 save percentage.

Matthew Tkachuk assisted on the only goal of the contest and has now factored on three game-winning goals this series (2-1—3). The only players in NHL history to record a point on all four game-winning tallies in the penultimate round of the playoffs are Yvan Cournoyer(four in 1976 with Montreal), Mike Bossy (four with the Islanders in 1983), Ray Bourque (four with Boston in 1988), Wayne Gretzky (four with the LA Kings in 1993) and Ondrej Palat (four with Tampa Bay in 2022).

Tkachuk now has seven goals and 12 assists in these playoffs and is one point away from becoming the seventh player in the past decade with 20 or more points in his first postseason with a franchise. He would join Ryan O’Reilly (23 in 2019 with St. Louis), Reilly Smith (22 in 2018 with Vegas), Jonathan Marchessault (21 in 2018 with Vegas), Jake Guentzel (21 in 2017 with Pittsburgh), Phil Kessel (22 in 2016 with Pittsburgh) and Marian Gaborik (22 in 2014 with the LA Kings).

Sam Reinhart’s winning goal came on the power play midway through the second period. The 27-year-old forward has seven goals and 10 points in 15 playoff contests this year, including four points with the man advantage. It was the Panthers’ 98th game of the season. This will be the second season in which Florida has more than 100 games; the most was 104 in the 1995-96 season that ended in the Stanley Cup Final.

Bobrovsky, making his 58th career playoff start, became the third goaltender in franchise history to record a postseason shutout and the oldest netminder at the time of his first career playoff shutout since Tim Thomas (35 years, 340 days in Game 5 of 2009 conference semifinals), who also achieved the feat against Rod Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes.

The Panthers are 2-0 all-time when taking the first three games of a series. They also became the first team in NHL history to enter a postseason as the lowest-seeded team and own multiple 3-0 leads in a best-of-seven series that same playoff year. Florida is now 6-0 when scoring first this postseason.
