Indianapolis Colts 2022 NFL Draft Best First-Round Targets

By Carlos Chacon

The Carson Wentz experiment in Indianapolis lasted only one season, as the Colts are now moving on in their quest to find their next franchise QB by signing former league MVP Matt Ryan. However, the Colts won’t be picking until the second round with the 42nd-overall selection to make the pieces around Ryan’s arrival much better. What will Indy do with its first pick of the draft from a less-than favorable position?

Nitrobetting is ready to equip its bettors with the latest news, futures NFL odds, and special features for the duration of the 2022 NFL offseason. This time, let’s examine the best first-round prospects that the Indianapolis Colts may strongly consider picking up at the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

Christian Watson – North Dakota State (WR)

The Colts would have to trade up in the draft to get one of the more sought-after wide receivers in this year’s class. That being said, they could still pick up a relatively underrated talent in NDSU’s Christian Watson. The 22-year-old wideout is a four-time FCS champion as a member of the mighty Broncos and a two-time All-MVFC first-team selection who could refine his pass-catching skills with Matt Ryan working his typical magic of turning rookie wideouts into future stars.

Luke Goedeke – Central Michigan (OT)

Central Michigan has two elite tackles in the 2022 NFL Draft, with Bernhard Raimann being a first-round prospect and his fellow tackle Luke Goedeke expected to go in the second or third round. Goedeke is a nice insurance policy for a relatively stout Indy O-line paving lanes for Jonathan Thomas, especially with his 94.3 run-blocking grade per Pro Football Focus being one of the best marks amongst all prospects this year.

Jalen Pitre – Baylor (CB)

The Colts are already known for their imposing defense, but an extra hand at cornerback certainly doesn’t hurt them either, especially with nobody set in stone yet to pair up with Stephon Gilmore. That being said, Jalen Pitre of Baylor is a high-upside pick that could be had without having to reach in the lower tiers like Watson and Goedeke before him. Although Pitre operates the best as a slot defender, his FBS-best 47 defensive stops (best amongst all corners in 2021) speaks volumes of the impact he could immediately make in the NFL level.

Updated Indianapolis Colts 2022 NFL Futures Odds

As of this writing, the Colts are priced at +3,000 to win Super Bowl 57. They share the same odds to win SB LVII as another promising team from the previous season that just came up short of a solid postseason run in the Arizona Cardinals. Indianapolis is also currently the odds-on favorite to win the AFC South title at (+115), but only slightly ahead of reigning division champs the Tennessee Titans at (+120).
