Why Bet on the Seattle Kraken?
The Seattle Kraken were on the losing end of a 6-3 decision in Game 4 of their second-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The series is now tied at 2-2, with Seattle winning Games 1 and 3 scoring five or more goals in each of those affairs while losing Games 3 and 4 despite scoring four and three goals, respectively.
Facing a 5-1 deficit in the final period of Tuesday’s contest, Jaden Schwartz and Adam Larsson found the back of the net to make a late rally that was just too insurmountable in the end. The Kraken were limited to just 19 shots on goal that evening and also failed to capitalize on their 21-5 edge in takeaways over Dallas.
Unfortunately, goalie Philipp Grubauer has regressed of late, allowing four or more goals in three of his last four starts. Grubauer surrendered five goals from just 22 shots-on-goal from the Stars in Game 4, which might open the door for his backup Martin Jones (.886 SV%, 3.00 GAA in the regular season) to try and fix Seattle’s netminding woes.
Why Bet on the Dallas Stars?
With postseason experience coming into play at the right moment, the Dallas Stars refuse to go down easily to the upstart Kraken and have knotted up the series once more. The 2019-20 Western Conference champions have never led at any point in their second-round series and will try to get the series advantage for the first time with a win on Thursday.
Second-generational talent Max Domi scored a pair of goals, as Domi and fellow superstars Jamie Benn, Joe Pavelski, and Roope Hintz also found the back of the net for Dallas’ best scoring output since Game 2 of their first-round set against Minnesota. Two of those goals were with the man advantage, as the Stars are currently ranked fifth this postseason with a 33.1 power-play percentage.
However, Dallas has to be careful with giving Seattle power play opportunities of their own on the opposite end of the ice. The Stars committed 14 minutes in penalties in Game 4, upping their total to 166 minutes in the sin bin (worst amongst all teams in the playoffs). It’s also worth pointing out that Goalie Jake Oettinger faced just 19 shots from the Kraken and still allowed three of them to get by him. Oettinger has recently been rocked for five goals apiece by Seattle in Games 1 and 3 of the series.
Kraken vs. Stars Betting Trends
- The Kraken are 6-3 on the road since the start of April.
- The Kraken are now 4-6 lifetime head-to-head against Dallas.
- The totals went under in six of Seattle’s last nine road games but with the last three contests hitting the over.
- The Stars are 7-2 in the last nine home games.
- The Stars are 12-3 in its last 15 outings as favorites to win.
- The totals went over in each of the last seven meetings between these two teams.
Kraken vs. Stars Game 5 Expert Betting Predictions
This should be the time when the Stars display their postseason experience once more and finally recapture the home-ice advantage. On the other hand, the Kraken have been a delightful surprise in their playoff debut and we predict their Cinderella run to reach another high note with yet another upset in the Lone Star State in Game 5 with Seattle and Dallas both putting up over three goals apiece and with the former edging out the latter in overtime thriller similar to the series opener.
