Los Angeles Rams 2022 NFL Draft Best First-Round Targets

By Carlos Chacon

One drawback that Super Bowl champions have entering the following season is their low placement in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams don’t have to worry about their first rounder or any first-round prospects in general, for that matter, considering that their opening pick at the 2022 NFL Draft this April won’t be until the third round. Nevertheless, it’s still worth examining how LA will retool its roster with rookies for its upcoming defense of the Lombardi Trophy.

Max Mitchell – Louisiana (OT)

The Rams don’t need much on offense outside of shoring up their offensive line. That being said, Louisiana’s Max Mitchell should still be available in the third round and could end up being a steal. At 6’6” and 307 lbs, Mitchell has drawn comparisons to Niners standout Mike McGlinchey for their size and consistency in pass protection.

Alontae Taylor – Tennessee (CB)

A more pressing need for LA is on the defense’s side of the ball, particularly in the secondary. Tennessee’s standout corner Alontae Taylor could turn out to be one hidden gem in a draft class filled with top-tier cornerbacks. Taylor’s not just a terrific defender who’s had prior experience as a receiver, but he’s also an academic standout with no baggage to deal with.

Bubba Bolden – Miami (S)

Safety is another need that the Rams need to address considering the seemingly ill fit of Taylor Rapp on their D as a holdout from the previous Wade Phillips regime and with Rapp becoming a free agent after the 2022 NFL season. In turn, LA might want to consider picking up Bubba Bolden from The U, who has displayed terrific tackling form for the Hurricanes. Bolden’s speed isn’t optimal, though, which could be why he’ll still be on the board around the third round.
