Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – November 7th, 2022

By Hank Blaine

Outside of Christmas Eve and the All-Star break, it’s very rare for the NBA to have a completely dark day but that was the case on Tuesday simply as the league intentionally shifted the focus away from the court on Election Day in the USA. Action returns on Wednesday. Here are two interesting games the rest of the week.

Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week (November 7th, 2022)

New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets

  • When: Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY
  • TV: ESPN
  • Radio: 98.7 FM ESPN (Knicks) // WFAN 101.9 FM (Nets)
  • Live Stream: NBA League Pass
  • NBA Betting Odds: TBA

ESPN has this telecast, the first matchup of the season between the rivals. Brooklyn remains without All-Star guard Kyrie Irving due to suspension. The Nets suspended Irving for a minimum of five games on Nov. 3 due to his repeated failure to disavow antisemitism and apologize for posting a link to a film that contained antisemitic tropes. Irving has since apologized on Instagram, but must also meet a list of six requirements in order to rejoin the team.

Boston Celtics forward, Jaylen Brown, who is a vice president of the National Basketball Players Association, says that the union has issues with the requirements outlined for Kyrie Irving’s reinstatement to the Brooklyn Nets. Furthermore, the Players Association plans to appeal Irving’s suspension.

Brooklyn has actually played better without Irving, going 2-1 straight up and 3-0 ATS. KD has tallied 25+ points in each of the first 11 games of the season. The last player to register 25+ points in the first 11 games of a season was Allen Iverson in the 2005-06 campaign. The 10 straight games to start the season with 25+ points are the most in a season in KD’s career (previous: five straight, last season). Durant had a streak of 57 straight made free throws end in Monday’s loss at Dallas.

The Knicks got back to .500 with a 120-107 win at Minnesota on Monday. Jalen Brunson delivered 23 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Brunson averaged 21.7 points, 7.3 dimes and 3.3 boards in three games leading up to this one, and he kept the strong play going. Brunson has now scored at least 20 points in four straight.

Monday’s win brought New York’s point differential to an even 0.0. They are also smack in the middle of the pack at 15th overall in Simple Rating System, a stat that takes into account strength of schedule and average point differential. The Knicks are 16th in offense, 16th in defense, and 15th in SRS. They have played five home games and five road games. They are 1-1 in overtime.

Brooklyn was 4-0 vs. New York last year.

NBA Betting Pick: Nets

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors

  • When: Friday, November 11, 2022, 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Chase Center, San Francisco, CA
  • TV: NBCSBA, BSOH
  • Radio: WTAM 1100 AM (Cavaliers) // 95.7 The Game (Warriors)
  • Live Stream: NBA League Pass
  • NBA Betting Odds: TBA

This could be an NBA Finals preview. The Cavs have been terrific in the early going but the defending champion Warriors have been huge disappointments. Likely just a championship hangover.

The Cavs lead the NBA in PPG differential (+10.9) and rank 2nd in the NBA in 3FG% (.399). Cleveland’s 134 3FGM are the most triples through 10 games in team history. Donovan Mitchell is 6th in the NBA in triples made this season (37) and is one of four players in the NBA shooting .450 3FG% on 35+ 3FGM (Kevin Huerter – 35-68, .515 | Bojan Bogdanovic – 36-77, .468 | Desmond Bane – 39-85, .459).

Jarrett Allen ranks 4th in the NBA in rebounds per game (12.2 RPG) and T-2nd in the NBA in double-doubles (7). Allen has recorded 10+ rebounds in 8 of his 10 games this season as well as six multiblock games (four straight).

Kevin Love leads the NBA in charges drawn (9). Evan Mobley ranks 6th in the NBA in contested shots per game (12.0) and Allen ranks 7th in the NBA in contested shots per game (11.6). Cleveland is the only team in the NBA with 2 players ranking in the top-10 in contested shots per game. Allen also ranks T-7th in the NBA in loose balls recovered per game (1.1).

The league’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, has made at least one 3-pointer in 199 consecutive regular season games, an NBA record. On June 13 vs. Boston, NBA Finals Game 5, Curry missed all nine of his 3-point attempts, ending two of his NBA-record streaks – 132 consecutive playoff games and 233 combined regular season and playoff games. The last time he did not make a 3-pointer was on November 8, 2018 vs. Milwaukee when he missed all four of his 3-point attempts.

Golden State has won the past 10 meetings with Cleveland. The one in San Francisco last year was 96-82. Curry had 29 points, five rebounds and five assists.

NBA Betting Pick: Warriors
