Why Bet on the Edmonton Oilers?

There are only a handful of worse outcomes than an overtime loss in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Edmonton Oilers suffered such a defeat this Tuesday. The Oilers lost Game 5 against the Los Angeles Kings in overtime, 5-4, as back-to-back defeats now puts them on the brink of elimination.

On the bright side, Edmonton’s top two stars delivered in Game 5. Both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl scored three points for their team, with McDavid finishing with one goal and two assists, and Draisaitl scoring twice and adding a helper. However, the Oilers only managed to put up 28 shots on goal compared to 43 from the Kings.

Defense was clearly an issue once again for the Oilers, as Mike Smith had all sorts of fits containing the barrage of shots from the Kings. Smith has ceded nine goals over the last two games whilst also facing no fewer than 43 shots in each of his last two starts. In turn, Edmonton needs to counter with an even stronger offensive performance from their biggest stars given the rate that the team’s defense has slowly unraveled in the series.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Kings?

Two of the five games of this series were decided by one goal and it was the Los Angeles Kings who came out on top of both of those contests. The OT victory in Game 5 is yet another testament to Los Angeles’ Stanley Cup-winning experience despite the team’s aging roster.

Thankfully, the Kings got a massive performance from one of their younger rising stars in Adrian Kempe. The Swedish forward scored the game-winner in overtime and had another goal and assist in regulation to carry his team to its biggest win over the series by far. Kempe now joins fellow Swede Carl Lundstrom as LA’s heroes after Lundstrom also scored two goals in the 4-0 shutout of the Oilers in Game 4.

Speaking of shutouts, veteran goalie Jonathan Quick couldn’t replicate his dominant showing in Game 4 and surrendered four goals in just 28 shots faced on Tuesday. Nonetheless, Quick, a former Conn Smythe Trophy winner, has kept his cool under pressure in large part thanks to his previous title-winning postseason experience over the previous decade.

Oilers vs. Kings Betting Trends

  • The Oilers are 8-3 in their last 11 games as road favorites.
  • The totals have gone under in four of Edmonton’s last six games away from Alberta.

  • The totals went over in four of the Hurricanes’ last five road games.

Oilers vs. Kings Expert Betting Predictions

It’s clear that the Kings are in the driver seat and are playing with much more confidence and balance than the Oilers. Then again, Edmonton’s offense should still be feared and the desperation that Game 6’s elimination game brings may be enough for the Oilers to send matters back to their home turf for a must-watch Game 7 showdown.
