Why Bet on the Oklahoma State Cowboys?

Oklahoma State (9-3, 7-2) earned the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 title game with a double-overtime victory at home against BYU, 40-34. Ollie Gordon II ran for his fifth touchdown of the game in the second overtime for OSU, which rallied from an 18-point deficit. BYU had a chance to win after Gordon’s final score, but Oklahoma State’s Trey Rucker ripped the ball from Isaac Rex after a catch and recovered the fumble to end it. The Cowboys celebrated after the play was confirmed by replay review.

Gordon, who entered the week as the nation’s leading rusher, finished with 166 yards rushing on a cold, rainy day and has 1,580 this season. Gordon joined Barry Sanders as the only players in Oklahoma State history to rush for five touchdowns in a single game. Sanders accomplished the feat three times in his career. Gordon has produced eight 100-yard rushing games in the past nine games and scored 16 rushing touchdowns in his past six games. He ranks No. 1 in the FBS in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, games with at least 100, 150, 200 and 250 rushing yards, 30-yard carries, 40-yard carries and 70-yard carries.

Alan Bowman passed for 321 yards and Leon Johnson III had nine catches for 132 yards for Oklahoma State, which matched the third-largest comeback in school history. The win marked the 22nd time OSU has overcome a two-score deficit to win in the Mike Gundy era and the 16th time since 2014.

Oklahoma State will be playing the conference title game for the second time in program history and first time since 2021, a 21-16 defeat to Baylor. UT holds a 26-11 advantage in the series over OSU, including a 2-0 mark in neutral site games. Oklahoma State won last year’s contest in Stillwater with the 11th-ranked Cowboys topping No. 20 Texas, 41-34, despite Bijan Robinson rushing for 140 yards and scoring both a rushing and receiving touchdown. After Texas won 12-straight meetings from 1998-2009, the Cowboys have won nine of the last 13 contests between the schools since 2010. Gundy is 9-9 in his career against Texas, while Sarkisian is 0-2 against Oklahoma State.

Why Bet on the Texas Longhorns?

Texas (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) won the Big 12 regular season title and it deserves to get into the playoff over Alabama simply because the Horns won in Tuscaloosa earlier this year. But if UT loses this game, it won’t matter. The Horns and Cowboys didn’t play in the new-look Big 12 whereas in previous seasons they would have when there were 10 schools because every team played each other.

UT closed the regular season with an emphatic 57-7 rout of Texas Tech on Friday. Texas was clicking on all cylinders Friday night as it had a season high 57 points to go with 528 yards of total offense (226 pass, 302 rush) while holding Texas Tech to only 198 total yards. Running back Jaydon Blue had a career day and carried the ball 10 times for 121 yards, including a 69-yard touchdown rush. It marked the first 100-yard game of his career. It marked the 12th straight game Texas has rushed for at least 100 yards. UT has had three straight games with three different 100-yard rushers for the first time since 2015.

Kicker Bert Auburn tied a Texas single-game record with five made field goals in the win. His 21 points in the win was also a Texas single game record. QB Quinn Ewers completed 17-of-26 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. He connected for his 32nd career touchdown pass, the eighth most in program history and improved his career passing yard total to 4,886, eighth most in program history. Ewers has thrown at least one TD pass in 10 consecutive games. WR Xavier Worthy caught four passes for 49 yards and one touchdown. He extended his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 37 games, the third-longest streak in program history.

The 50-point victory was the largest for Texas in a Big 12 game since 2007. It is the 10th time this season Texas has scored at least 30 points in a game. The Longhorns have scored at least 50 points six times in the Sarkisian era. Defensively, it was the third time this season that UT has held opponents to single-digits in scoring. It marks the first time since 2017 that the Longhorns have held three opponents to fewer than 10 points in a game.

This will mark the Longhorns’ first appearance in the Big 12 title game since 2018 and seventh time overall. Texas won the first-ever Big 12 Conference Championship Game in 1996. The Longhorns also won Big 12 Championships in 2005 and 2009. Texas will be the home team for the game, but has chosen to wear its traditional all-white uniforms.
