Why Bet on the Carolina Panthers?
After snapping their lengthy losing skid in Week 8, the Carolina Panthers found themselves on the losing end of a 24-6 drubbing at the hands of the New England Patriots this past week. The Panthers are now officially under the .500 mark for the first time this season, dashing all the promise from their 3-0 start.
Sam Darnold was once again stifled by a familiar ghost from his past in Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense, as the former second-overall pick went just 16-of-33 for 172 passing yards, three interceptions, and without a single touchdown pass. Carolina’s 10 penalties that cost the team negative-83 yards in total also didn’t help the team’s cause.
On the bright side, stud running back Christian McCaffrey made his return after a five-game absence due to injury. McCaffrey racked up a total of 106 yards from scrimmage split between his 14 rush attempts and four receptions. CMC will need to be the focal point of the Panthers’ offense once more, as Darnold is expected to miss some time with a bummed shoulder himself. That leaves unproven backup P.J. Walker as their signal-caller in Week 10’s showdown against a Cards team that can’t seem to do no wrong.
Why Bet on the Arizona Cardinals?
Even with Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins sidelined in Week 9 due to injuries, the Arizona Cardinals still looked impressive during their 31-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday for their seventh victory of the season.
Long-time NFL backup Colt McCoy emerged from Murray’s shadow and played like an all-star against the Niners defense, throwing just four incompletions in 26 pass attempts for 249 passing yards and a TD pass to running back James Conner. Speaking of Conner, the former Pittsburgh Steeler had himself quite an afternoon, as he amassed 96 rushing yards and two more trips to the end zone on the ground on 21 carries.
Murray’s week-to-week timetable dealing with an ankle injury has us believing that the MVP frontrunner of the season will miss another game just for extra precautions. But with the way that the Cards are playing regardless of who’s under center, their stout defense that ranks third in the NFL at just an average 17.2 points allowed per contest will likely be enough for the Cardinals to keep the good times rolling.
Panthers vs. Cardinals Betting Trends
- The Panthers are just 3-6 in their last nine regular-season road games, but are 7-2 against the spread.
- The Panthers are 3-0 against Arizona since 2016 (SU/ATS).
- The totals went under in five of Carolina’s last six road games.
- The Cardinals are 3-1 at home this season (SU/ATS).
- The Cards are 4-1 in games wherein they’re favored to win this season (3-2 ATS).
- The totals went under in each of Arizona’s last three home games.
Panthers vs. Cardinals Expert Betting Predictions
Despite the Cardinals’ injury woes, specifically to Murray, they’re currently pegged as double-digit favorites to win Sunday’s game in the desert. We’ve seen in the past how McCaffrey can easily take over any contest on his own, and that should give the Panthers more credit as a possible threat to the Cards’ magical season. If not, at the very least, put up enough points to cover the relatively wide spread.
