Why Bet on the Florida Panthers?
Florida was able to win Game 3 by a score of 3-2 in overtime at home to cut the Vegas lead to 2-1 on Thursday, but the Knights took control of the series right back on Saturday with a 3-2 road win for a 3-1 lead.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 of 31 shots in the defeat. The Golden Knights didn’t score over the last 28:52 of the game, but Bobrovsky had already given up three goals and the Panthers couldn’t recover. He’s at a 12-5 record, a 2.50 GAA and a .924 save percentage through 18 contests.
Aleksander Barkov scored a goal on six shots and added an assist in Saturday’s 3-2 loss. Barkov had been held off the scoresheet in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final. He and Brandon Montour were able to set up each other’s goals Saturday, but the Panthers’ comeback effort fell short. Barkov now has 16 points, 54 shots on net, 49 hits, 16 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating through 20 playoff contests. The defenseman Montour has three points over his last two games since he snapped a 10-game drought.
Two of Florida’s top forwards are in question for Game 5. Tkachuk would not commit to being available for Tuesday after he was on the bench nursing an injury for part of the third period of Saturday’s 3-2 loss. Tkachuk also only lightly participated in warmups, taking just a few shots. The injury likely stems from a heavy hit that he took from Keegan Kolesar in Game 3. Anthony Duclair is in question with an undisclosed injury suffered in Game 4. Duclair has registered four goals, 11 points and 37 shots on net in 19 games this postseason.
Why Bet on the Vegas Golden Knights?
The Panthers made things interesting with two goals, but Vegas netminder Adin Hill slammed the door late to give Vegas its 15th win of the postseason. Hill’s 29-save performance made him the first goalie in NHL history to win 10 games in the postseason with each win coming after the first round. Hill has a 10-4 record, a 2.11 GAA and a .934 save percentage through 15 playoff appearances.
Hill could win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP as he’s neck-and-neck with teammate Jonathan Marchessault. He had an assist in Game 4 and is up to eight goals and six assists during his nine-game point streak. Marchessault’s 24 points overall are tied with Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk and Dallas’ Roope Hintz atop the postseason scoring chart.
Chandler Stephenson got the scoring started less than two minutes into the game as he raced past the Florida defense and fired a shot home to make it 1-0 for the visitors. Stephenson doubled the lead in the second period as he one-timed a pass from Mark Stone to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 edge. Less than four minutes later, William Karlsson piled on with his first goal of the series to put Vegas ahead, 3-0.
Mark Stone had a hand in both of Stephenson’s tallies in the game. While he was quiet for much of the Western Conference Finals, Stone has emerged again for two goals and four assists through four games in the Stanley Cup Final. He is one of three Vegas forwards, along with Marchessault and Jack Eichel, to be at a point-per-game pace or better in the postseason.
The Golden Knights can become the 23rd club to win the Stanley Cup since 1927 when the trophy first was competed for only by NHL teams and the 21st active franchise to claim the prized trophy. The Golden Knights (6th season) can become the seventh franchise in NHL history to require six or fewer seasons to win their first Stanley Cup. Only one of the past seven Stanley Cup winners has clinched on home ice: Tampa Bay in 2021. Overall, the Cup has been secured by the home team 57 times./p>
