Nitrobetting is ready to volley the latest news, tennis odds, and updates all year round. Let’s break down the upcoming second-round match of the 2023 French Open women’s singles tournament between Jessica Pegula and Camila Giorgi.

Why Bet on Jessica Pegula?

Expectations are high this year for No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula, who is still searching for her maiden Grand Slam title. She definitely got off on the right foot this Sunday, winning her first-round match of the 2023 French Open against fellow American Danielle Collins in straight sets; 6-4, 6-2.

Pegula looked much better in Roland Garros than in Rome last week when she was eliminated in the first round. The Buffalo native did have a stronger showing in Spain prior to her stop in Italy, reaching the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open. Grand Slam events are where she excels the most, though, as Pegula has advanced to the quarterfinal stage in five of her last six Grand Slam appearances.

Up next is a bout against Camila Giorgi, with whom Pegula has a 7-2 lifetime record and a perfect 3-0 mark on clay head-to-head. Winning experience against a familiar foe should give Pegula a huge advantage heading into Tuesday’s contest.

Why Bet on Camila Giorgi?

In a battle between two of the WTA Tour’s more famous beauties, Camila Giorgi came out on top of her first-round match against Alize Cornet. The 31-year-old fan favorite is hoping to fare even better than her career-best fourth-round appearance at Roland Garros that she set just last season.

Giorgi prevailed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cornet thanks to a strong return game, winning 44 off 77 return-point opportunities. The often-fiery-tempered Italian kept her cool for most of the match that she led for the majority of the affair.

Although Giorgi has lost her last four head-to-head meetings against Pegula, her most recent win over her upcoming second-round opponent came not so long ago at Montreal back in August of 2021. She’s also pushed Pegula to the full three-set limit in each of their last three encounters, meaning that Giorgi has been able to hang well against the third-best female player on the circuit.

Jessica Pegula vs. Camila Giorgi Betting Trends

  • Pegula is 18-7 on clay dating back to last season.
  • As mentioned earlier, Pegula is 7-2 lifetime going up against Giorgi in singles competition.
  • Giorgi has a record of 28-19 this season thus far.
  • Giorgi is 13-14 on clay since 2020.

Jessica Pegula vs. Camila Giorgi Expert Betting Prediction

It’s tough not betting against Pegula, who is deadset on winning a Grand Slam title once and for all. Then again, Giorgi has given Pegula all sorts of fits lately despite the former often coming out on top of their matches. Pegula should advance to the second round but not before Giorgi gives her a scare by bowing out no later than the third set of Tuesday’s showdown.
