Penguins vs. Islanders NHL Playoffs Odds and Game 6 Pick – May 26th, 2021

By Hank Blaine

It took two overtimes in Game 5 to get the winner. The breaking of that tied series is one for the books. In the end, only one can survive and that luck came to New York, beating Pittsburgh on Monday night 3-2. It’s interesting to see so many of these games going into overtime. It wouldn’t be strange to see this happen tonight in Game 6.

Can the Islanders take the win at home and advance to the next round? Or will the Penguins declare victory on the road and extend the series to Game 7? There’s a lot on the line each team. There’s no doubt it will be quite the battle. We take a closer look at Game 6 of the Penguins vs. Islanders series, along wit important team details, key players, the latest NHL odds, betting trends, and expert betting predictions–all of which are geared towards better picks. Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Penguins?

Desperation is a stinky cologne and that could be the case for the Penguins if they can’t keep it together. The pressure is on, especially on the road and Nassau Coliseum will be loud. The error in Game 5 came from goalie Tristan Jerry, who was already having a rough night, but stopped 25 of 28 shots. The Penguins had a total of 50 shots, got a 65% expected goal rate and had 14 high danger chances. They looked like the more solid team on the ice.

Going back to Jarry, he will be the most important player on the team. Yes, he has been a bit shaky throughout the series and currently posses the worst percentage in goals saved above expectation. He also has a 2.85 GAA and a save percentage of .902. But if it hadn’t been for that small mistake of handling a turnover, we would probably be giving this kid more credit. Hopefully he gets his head straight and give the Pens one more shot to advance.

Why Bet on the New York Islanders?

We need to be real here. The Isles weren’t at their best in Game 5. They were having their issues with the defense, giving up way too many opportunities for the Penguins to capitalize. If it wasn’t for Sorokin, they wouldn’t be going back home with the lead. At first, he got two goals within the first 27 minutes, but shook off the cobwebs and saved the rest of the shots.

Their third line has been the group that’s been moving the plays and the puck. The pairing of Jean Gabriel Pagaeu, Oliver Wahlstrom and Kyle Palmieri could drive the Isles into victory. We’ll have to wait and see if Wahlstrom plays tonight, as he got injured in Game 5. If he doesn’t make an appearance, he’ll probably be replaced by Travis Zajac, a well known veteran.

Penguins vs. Islanders Expert Betting Predictions

Tensions are high for this one. Pittsburgh is the team with the most weight on their shoulders, because this loss will end their season. Playing as a visitor doesn’t help ease that weight. And even thought the Islanders have the lead, they can’t let the Pens slip past them. It will come down to which goalie does the job. Those two young stars will define the future of each team. Let’s see where luck stands in this one.
