Why Bet on the Purdue Boilermakers?

After snapping their four-game losing streak to end the 2020 campaign with a win over Oregon State in Week 1, the Purdue Boilermakers followed that huge victory with an even more emphatic one in Week 2. The Boilermakers travelled to Connecticut and embarrassed the Huskies to the tune of a 49-0 shutout.

Quarterback Jack Plummer (no relation to former NFL QB Jake Plummer), threw four touchdown passes to increase his season total to six TDs without a single turnover. Plummer finished with 245 yards on 16-of-20 passing while also getting good help from the backfield with a couple of 70-yard rushing performances from King Doerue and Dylan Downing.

Purdue’s imposing defense will be put to its biggest test yet in the form of the Notre Dame offense; one that’s averaging 36.5 points per game thus far. That being said, the team’s offense better be prepared to stay blow-for-blow on the scoreboard and put the Fighting Irish on the ropes for the third straight week.

Why Bet on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish?

One could understand how the Notre Dame Fighting Irish would need an overtime win to beat a respectable Florida Seminoles program on opening week. However, A narrow 32-29 victory in Week 2 over the middling Toledo Rockets from the MAC is not an encouraging follow-up performance for the boys from South Bend.

Senior quarterback Jack Coan struggled early on in the contest before connecting on a game-winning touchdown pass with under a minute and a half left in the contest. Coan fought through a dislocated finger and it paid off, as the Wisconsin transfer finished with 246 passing yards, two TDs, and one pick.

Second-year wide receiver Michael Mayer was the recipient of Coan’s pair of scoring passes including the game-winner, finishing with seven catches for 88 receiving yards. Although the No. 12 Fighting Irish improved to 25 straight wins at home after that Week 2 nail-biter, their streak could very well be in danger with a surging Boilermakers squad coming to town.

Purdue vs. Notre Dame Betting Trends

  • The Boilermakers are 2-5 on the road since 2019 (4-3 AT.
  • The Boilermakers are 4-6 in their last 10 regular-season games as underdogs, but went an impressive 9-1 against the spread in those contests.
  • The totals have gone under in five of Purdue’s last eight regular-season games in general.
  • As mentioned earlier, the Fighting Irish are unbeaten in their last 25 regular-season home games. However, they’re just 9-11 against the spread during those homestands.
  • The Irish are 7-0 against the Boilermakers since 2008 (3-4 ATS).
  • The totals have gone under in four of those seven previous meetings against Purdue.

Purdue vs. Notre Dame Expert Betting Predictions

Will the Fighting Irish be able to rediscover their full potential as a top-15 program in the polls this coming Saturday afternoon? Neither of their first two games of the new season are convincing showings at that. In turn, this matchup reeks of a possible upset by visiting Purdue, who is seemingly capable of covering the single-score spread, at the very least, given how the team’s offense is just as potent as Notre Dame’s of late.
