Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?

There might be more Raiders fans in attendance for this game because they remain maybe the most popular NFL team in Los Angeles from their time spent there years ago. The Chargers, meanwhile, might have one of the worst home-field advantages in the NFL as few of their fans from San Diego drive up to Los Angeles as they are still ticked off the team left.

At 3-0, the Raiders are off to their best start in years – although they might be more lucky than good as they have rallied from down two touchdowns to win two of their games and in overtime. They were down 14-0 early last Sunday at home vs. Miami but prevailed 31-28 in OT on Daniel Carlson’s 22-yard field goal as time expired. The Raiders are the fourth team to win two overtime games within its first three games of a season, joining the 1995 Atlanta Falcons, 1995 Kansas City Chiefs and 1994 Detroit Lions.

Derek Carr threw for 386 yards and two scores with a pick vs. Miami. He leads the NFL with 1,203 passing yards and is just the fourth QB with at least 1,200 through his teams first game of a season. The others: Tom Brady (1,327 passing yards in 2011), Ryan Fitzpatrick (1,230 in 2018) and Kurt Warner (1,221 in 2000). What the hell is Ryan Fitzpatrick doing on that list.

Carr also has thrown for at least 325 yards in five straight games dating to 2020, becoming just the fourth player ever with that kind of run. The record is six in a row by Rich Gannon in 2002 while he was with the Raiders and also coached by Jon Gruden. Carr was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September. The Raiders lead the NFL with 471.0 total yards of offense per game and they are the only team in the league that has four receivers with 200+ yards.

Las Vegas has played the past two games without Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs. Still not clear if he will go Monday but having the extra day should help. He’s likely going to be listed as “questionable” heading into the matchup with the Chargers, but we may not know if he’ll play until just before kickoff. Peyton Barber had a big game in his place vs. Miami.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Chargers?

Los Angeles (2-1) upset the Chiefs in Kansas City last Sunday, 30-24. Justin Herbert hit Mike Williams on a 4-yard TD pass with 32 seconds left. Herbert threw for 281 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 125.0 rating. He became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to record five games with at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in his first two seasons.

The Chargers clearly got a steal in the first round of this year’s draft in Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater as the No. 13 overall pick is one of two rookie tackles to see at least 80 pass block plays so far and not allow a sack (Penei Sewell).

The Raiders lead the all-time series against the Chargers, 65-55-2. The teams split their series last year with each winning on the road and both going down to the wire. The one in Los Angeles was 31-26 in favor of the Raiders. With one second left, Herbert tossed a fade to Donald Parham Jr. While the call was initially ruled a touchdown, it was reversed on replay.

The Chargers still have won 12 of the past 18 home contests against the Raiders, scoring 20-plus points in all but five of those matchups. Raiders defensive coordinator Gus Bradley served in the same position for the Chargers for four seasons (2017-20).
