Rams vs. Chiefs 2022 NFL Week 12 Odds, Preview & Pick

By Jeff Stinger

What many thought would be a Super Bowl preview, Week 12’s matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs turned out to be a more lopsided affair after what had transpired in the first half of the season. The Chiefs still look like the best team in the AFC, while the Rams are in freefall mode and it’s feeling like they won’t be able to defend their championship at all. Will LA be able to pull off an upset in hostile KC territory?

Nitrobetting is ready to equip its bettors with the latest news, odds, and special features for the entire duration of the 2022 NFL season. This time, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming Week 12 interconference clash between the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Rams?

The nightmare season never ceases to end for the Los Angeles Rams, who’ve lost four straight games following their Week 11 road loss to the New Orleans Saints, 27-20. They now shockingly sport the worst record in the NFC West and, at 3-7, are likely to miss the postseason unless a miracle of sorts happens.

Just when Matthew Stafford was starting to cook, back luck continues to haunt the Rams. Stafford completed 11 of 18 passes for a pair of touchdown throws before he was forced to miss the second half of the game against the Saints as he may have reaggravated a concussion he suffered just last week. Los Angeles is already without the services of recently-injured superstar wide receiver Cooper Kupp, which paints an even bleaker picture of how the team’s season is going.

On one hand, the Rams have the third-best defense in the league against the run, allowing just an average of 95.2 rushing yards per game to their opponents. On the other hand, the Chiefs are more dangerous through the air than on the ground, which means LA’s middling pass rush needs more out of its standouts like Aaron Donald and Bobby Wagner to put a ton of pressure on Patrick Mahomes this Sunday to even stand a small chance of coming away with a massive upset in KC.

Why Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs?

On the opposite end of the Rams’ spectrum are the Kansas City Chiefs, who are now on a four-game win streak and are slowly breaking away from the rest of the pack in the AFC West’s division race. Their clutch 30-27 road victory in Week 11 against the rivaling Los Angeles Chargers just goes to show that the Chargers still have a long way to go before they can truly call themselves a feared contender for the division crown.

MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes had another banner game-winning drive with under two minutes left in the contest, connecting with star tight end Travis Kelce on a 17-yard go-ahead score. Mahomes finished with 329 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, his sixth game with three or more TD passes this season. Kelce, meanwhile, added his total TD count for the season to 11 trips to the end zone; the most in the league to date.

Like Los Angeles, Kansas City has a top-five rushing defense at a shade over 100 yards allowed on the ground per game. That’s mainly because opposing teams don’t get many opportunities to run the ball with KC always ahead on the scoreboard. In addition, the Chiefs needn’t worry about an LA rushing attack that is virtually non-existent.

Rams vs. Chiefs Betting Trends

  • The Rams are 1-3 on the road this season (1-2-1 ATS).
  • The Rams have lost four straight games as underdogs (0-3-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in five of Los Angeles’ last six road games, including last season’s Super Bowl matchup.
  • The Chiefs are 10-1 in the last 11 regular-season home games (5-6 ATS).
  • The Chiefs are 14-1 in the last 15 matchups against teams from the NFC (9-4-1 ATS).
  • The totals went under in five of the last six games played in Arrowhead.

Rams vs. Chiefs Expert Betting Predictions

In terms of straight-up predictions, it would be foolish to bet against the high-flying Chiefs with how they’re able to dissect opposing defenses with ease even when playing from behind. However, a three-possession point spread should draw more bettors toward picking the Rams ATS as road dogs, especially given KC’s record against the spread isn’t as encouraging as expected.
