Rams vs. Packers 2022 NFL Week 15 Odds, Preview & Pick

By Hank Blaine

The Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers were both NFC division winners last season and of course the Rams went on to win the Super Bowl. Both were expected to contend again this season but both have massively disappointed as they meet on Monday night to close Week 15.

In Week 12 last year in Green Bay, the Packers beat the Rams 36-28. Aaron Rodgers went 28 of 45 for 307 yards and threw touchdown passes of 7 yards to Randall Cobb and 5 yards to A.J. Dillon. He also rushed for a score. The Rams outscored Green Bay 11-0 in the fourth quarter, but their comeback attempt ended when Adrian Amos recovered an onside kick with 17 seconds left.

Los Angeles avoided potential playoff elimination with a stunning 17-16 comeback win over Las Vegas on Thursday night in Week 14 despite trailing 16-3 with just over three minutes left to snap a six-game losing streak. Baker Mayfield, claimed off waivers only 48 hours or so before the game from Carolina, led LA to a pair of late TD drives, capped by a 23-yard scoring pass to Van Jefferson with 10 seconds left.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Rams?

The Rams went on a 75-yard TD drive moments before the winning drive, the latter of which ended with Mayfield finding Jefferson behind rookie Sam Webb in the end zone. The 98-yard march was the longest go-ahead TD drive in the final 2 minutes of a game over the past 45 NFL seasons. Mayfield completed 22-of-35 passes for 230 yards and the one TD. Mayfield didn’t start the game, instead coming in after the team’s first possession – a three-and-out behind “starting quarterback” John Walford. Baker entered the game on the team’s second possession and played the rest of the game. He will start this game.

Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald has missed the past two with an ankle injury and likely won’t play here. Coach Sean McVay said that Donald hasn’t been shut down for the season, despite the 4-9 Rams’ status as a non-contender. Michael Hoecht has handled snap shares north of 80 percent while Donald has been sidelined, recording eight tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble during that span.

RB Cam Akers finished the game with 12 carries for 42 yards and one touchdown vs. the Raiders. He passed 1,000 career rushing yards in the fourth quarter and became the 26th Ram to reach this mark. In the fourth quarter, Akers scored his fourth touchdown of the season and third in two games, the most he’s had in a two-game span in his career.

Multiple Rams look to make history against the Packers on Monday. Mayfield needs just one passing touchdown to reach 100 in his career. He would become the 20th #1 overall pick in the NFL draft to reach this mark. Tyler Higbee is two touchdowns away from becoming the Rams all-time leader in touchdowns for tight ends. He currently has 17 touchdowns and sits one behind leader Damone Johnson (18). LB Bobby Wagner needs eight tackles to move to 9th all-time in regular season tackles. He ranks first among active players with 1,494 regular season tackles.

Last season, the Rams were the third-least penalized team in the NFL with only 76 penalties called against them in the regular season for 637 yards, second-fewest. This season, they are continuing that trend by having the second-fewest penalties called against them (59) for the fifth-fewest yards (516).

Why Bet on the Washington Commanders?

Green Bay comes off its bye week. Christian Watson ties for the lead among rookies this season with nine touchdowns (seven receiving, two rushing) and has recorded a touchdown reception in each of his past four games. Since Week 10, he leads all players with seven touchdown receptions and is the third rookie in the Super Bowl era with at least seven touchdown receptions in a four-game span.

With a touchdown reception against the Rams, Watson would become the fourth rookie in the Super Bowl era with a touchdown catch in five consecutive games and the first since Lee Evans in 2004.

This will be the first time the Packers have hosted the defending Super Bowl champions since Oct. 14, 2001, vs. Baltimore. It will be the first prime-time matchup between the teams since they met on MNF at Lambeau Field (Nov. 29, 2004).

It will be the latest regular-season visit for the Rams to Lambeau Field since 1992, a 28-13 victory by Green Bay on Dec. 20. Green Bay has won six of the last seven regular-season matchups with the Rams and 13 of the last 18. Including the postseason, the Packers have won each of the last four home games against the Rams, outscoring them, 116-59.

Rodgers has started against the Rams seven times (including postseason) with the Packers winning six of those contests and scoring 24-plus points in all seven games. Rodgers has thrown for 15 TDs, three INTs and a passer rating of 109.6 against the Rams.
