Why Bet on the Baltimore Ravens?
Had it not been for a season-ending knee injury suffered by franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson in Week 12 of last season, the Baltimore Ravens would’ve extended their streak of postseason appearances to four straight years. Instead, the Ravens barely missed out on the playoffs with an 8-9 record; the team’s first losing season under John Harbaugh since 2015.
Now that Lamar is back at full strength, many expect the Ravens to contend for the Lombardi trophy once more. The last time Jackson faced the Jets was during his MVP-winning campaign in 2019, wherein he broke Michael Vick’s single-season rushing record. The dual-threat gunslinger will call upon trusty tight end Mark Andrews, who broke the Ravens’ franchise records for tight ends with his 107 receptions and 1,361 receiving yards in 2021.
Although Baltimore had the best rushing defense last season (84.5 rushing yards allowed per game), they were, inversely, the worst against the pass, surrendering an average of 278.9 passing yards per contest to its opponents. The Ravens are counting on former Saints safety Marcus Williams to bolster their secondary, alongside Marlon Humphrey and an aging Marcus Peters.
Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys?
A two-win improvement from the 2020 NFL season to last year’s campaign is still a positive takeaway for the New York Jets, who displayed flashes of potential under new head coach Robert Saleh and the second-overall pick from last year’s draft, Zach Wilson.
Unfortunately, Gang Green fans will have to wait a few more weeks until seeing Wilson back in action, as the young BYU standout is recovering from a knee injury that he suffered this preseason. Baltimore’s former Super Bowl-winning QB, Joe Flacco, will get the starting for the Jets in Week 1, which adds another layer of intrigue in this upcoming AFC matchup.
Flacco must be aware that his team has a porous offensive line when it comes to pass protection; one that caused Zach Wilson to lose an NFL-worst 370 yards after getting sacked. That being said, rookie running back Breece Hall may have New York’s offense at his command on Sunday. Hall was taken by the Jets in the second round of this year’s draft, with the 21-year-old amassing a total of over 3,000 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns over his last two seasons in Iowa State.
Ravens vs. Jets Betting Trends
- The Ravens went 3-5 on the road last season (SU/ATS).
- The Ravens are 9-1 in their last 10 meetings against the Jets dating back to 1998 (8-2 ATS).
- The totals went under in five of Baltimore’s last seven road games.
- The Jets went 3-6 at home in 2021 (4-5 ATS).
- The Jets have won three straight contests against AFC North teams not named the Ravens (SU/ATS).
- The totals went over in six of the Jets’ last eight home games.
Ravens vs. Jets Expert Betting Predictions
As much as fans want to see an upset from the perpetually ridiculed Jets franchise, Week 1 isn’t the right time just yet despite having the home-field advantage. On the other hand, New York is facing a leaky Baltimore pass defense, which could mean a strong showing for Flacco in a revenge match against his former team. In turn, the Jets do still possess a decent chance to cover the spread if an outright win is out of the question.
