In what appears to be a lopsided matchup between two AFC South teams, the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans hope to kick off their respective 2022 seasons on the right note. The Colts are geared up to avenge their missed bid for a playoff spot last season, whereas the Texans are officially on the road to recovery from the Deshaun Watson debacle.

Why Bet on the Indianapolis Colts?

After squandering a golden opportunity to make the playoffs in the final week of the 2021 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts are determined not to repeat such a cruel fate. Indianapolis signed former league MVP Matt Ryan in the offseason and shipped last year’s starting quarterback Carson Wentz in the process.

Ryan, now 37 years old, was a few yards short of keeping his streak of 10 seasons with a 4,000-yard passing performance in his final year in Atlanta. The former face of the Falcons franchise will not have to do much through the air in Indy, though, as the league’s best running back right now, Jonathan Taylor, is on the team’s roster. Taylor led the league last season with his 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, which honestly should’ve earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors.

On top of the Colts’ big offseason move in acquiring Ryan, they still have one of the most imposing defenses in the league; one that was tied with the Cowboys for the most forced turnovers with 14 and was also tied for the eighth-best scoring defense in the NFL (21.5 PAPG).

Why Bet on the Houston Texans?

The Houston Texans invested a lot into their former franchise cornerstone in Deshaun Watson, only for Watson to fall into some hot water due to his off-field antics. In turn, Houston finished with another paltry four-win campaign for the second consecutive year and is not expected to compete for a postseason berth in 2022.

Is the Texans’ third-round pick in last year’s draft, Davis Mills, truly worthy of the starting QB role left by Watson? Mills played in 13 games in his rookie season (11 starts) and had a decent 66.8% competition percentage. However, the Stanford product’s 16-10 TD-INT ratio is still a work in progress.

There are a lot of newcomers in H-Town by way of the 2022 NFL Draft, with notable names such as cornerback and third-overall pick Derek Stingley, safety Jalen Pitre, running back Dameon Pierce, and offensive lineman Kenyon Green. There’s a ton of unproven talent on the Texans’ side of the ball, but everything could fall in the right place for them if the Colts play down to their competition.

As amazing as a Texans upset in Week 1 sounds, there’s just too much talent over on the Colts’ side of Sunday’s affair. Then again, Ryan could suffer the jitters playing for his first NFL team not named the Falcons, which leaves the door open for Houston to possibly cover the spread at the very least when all is said and done.
