Why Bet on the Baltimore Ravens?
The Week 2 clash between two former NFL MVPs was an instant classic, as the Baltimore Ravens eked out a 36-35 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Baltimore bounced back from its bitter overtime defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders in the season opener, and the team did so against the AFC’s gatekeepers.
Lamar Jackson won his first game in four tries against the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs, as the former Heisman Trophy winner scored the game-winning touchdown run with under four minutes left in the contest. Although Jackson had 107 rushing yards and two rushing TDs on 16 carries, he went 18-of-26 through the air for 239 passing yards and a pair of interceptions.
The Ravens’ defense, which has given up over 32 points in each of the first two games of the season, also needs a lot of work. On the bright side, the front seven was relentless against Kansas City’s running game, holding KC to just 62 rushing yards and also forcing two timely turnovers.
Why Bet on the Detroit Lions?
The Detroit Lions sure have a lot of fight in them as seen in their 35-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Although the scoreboard would suggest a dominant performance for the Packers, the Lions had their moments under the sun before Aaron Rodgers took over the second half en route to a Green Bay victory.
Newly-signed quarterback Jared Goff had another decent day throwing the football, throwing for a pair of scores in the first half and giving the Lions a three-point lead entering halftime. However, Goff would fumble away a possession in the third quarter and also throw a crucial pick in the fourth to hinder the Lions’ chances of another thrilling comeback, finishing with 246 passing yards and two TDs.
Detroit’s defense, unfortunately, continues to be a sieve and saw its secondary already missing top defensive back Jeff Okudah take another blow with the injury to rookie cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu. The Lions need to bottle up Jackson in the pocket in Week 3 and prevent the Ravens from exploiting their depleted stop unit, but that’s easier said than done given how Baltimore’s offense has been clicking this season.
Ravens vs. Lions Betting Trends
- The Ravens are just 2-3 in their last five regular-season games on the road (3-2 ATS).
- The Ravens have won ten straight contests against teams from the NFC (5-4-1 ATS).
- The totals have gone over in five of Baltimore’s last seven regular-season games in general.
- The Lions are merely 3-14 at home since the 2019 season (8-8 ATS).
- The Lions are 1-4 in their last five meetings against the Ravens (SU/ATS).
- The totals have gone over in seven of Detroit’s last nine home games.
Ravens vs. Lions Expert Betting Predictions
It’s understandable that the Ravens are heavy favorites in this Week 3 matchup. However, the Lions shouldn’t be underestimated whatsoever despite their poor performance on defense. Goff has been passable under center despite the lack of talent and experience in the receiving game, and Detroit must be able to extend drives on offense to prevent Baltimore from exposing their defense. That being said, covering a two-score spread is not that tall of an order for the relatively feisty Lions to achieve.
