Casper Ruud’s bid for back-to-back French Open final appearances is still alive and strong, as the young Norwegian defeated No. 6 seed Holger Rune in their quarterfinal match. It seems that Alexander Zverev’s ankle injury is well behind him now, as the 26-year-old German advanced to the semis of the French Open for the third straight year after beating Tomas Etcheverry in the quarterfinal. Although Zverev needed four sets to dispatch the relatively unknown Argentinian, he’s still in fantastic form as he continues his quest for his maiden Grand Slam title.

Zverev had five tune-up matches on clay prior to his return to Roland Garros this year to lackluster results. However, the 26-year-old Hamburg native may have saved his energy for the French Open, where he’s been a tough out for three seasons and counting.

Although Ruud got the better of Zverev in their latest singles match, it was the former who was more dominant in his two straight-set victories. One of those wins came at the 2021 Paris Open, albeit with that tournament being played on the hard courts rather than on the clay surfaces similar to the grounds of Roland Garros.
