Why Bet on the New Orleans Saints?
The all-time regular-season series is tied, 15-15, with the Saints having won the past two matchups. In their last meeting, Week 8 of the 2019 season, New Orleans earned a 31-9 win over Arizona as Michael Thomas and Taysom Hill each recorded touchdown receptions. Drew Brees was still the New Orleans quarterback then.
New Orleans blew a late home lead Sunday to Cincinnati and lost 30-26 on 60-yard TD pass with about two minutes left. Backup QB Andy Dalton’s record as a starter fell to 1-2 — same as Jameis Winston’s this season. Playing without top receivers Michael Thomas (foot), Jarvis Landry (ankle) and Chris Olave (concussion), Dalton went 17 of 32 for 162 yards. He led scoring drives on four consecutive possessions from early in the second quarter until early in the fourth, but the last three ended in field goals after the Saints got inside the Bengals 20.
Neither Thomas nor Landry is expected Thursday but the rookie Olave will play. Starting left guard Andrus Peat (chest) did not practice Tuesday. He was also listed as a DNP on Monday. Peat left Week 6 with a chest injury, and he appears to be at best doubtful for Thursday night. Calvin Throckmorton, who got the start at left guard when Peat was out in Week 4, is dealing with a hip injury of his own.
Will it be Dalton or Winston starting in this one? Winston missed the past three games with a back injury, and he also has an ankle injury and now Dalton also has a back injury. Dalton aims for his fourth start in a row this season with a touchdown pass and has at least two touchdown passes in four of his five career starts against Arizona. Winston has 10 touchdown passes in his past five road starts and has passed for 1,166 yards (291.5 per game) and seven touchdowns in four career starts on Thursday.
Defensive end Cameron Jordan has four sacks in four career games against the Cardinals and has registered five sacks in his past five road games. Since 2012, he ranks second among all players with 109.5 sacks and fourth with 142 tackles for loss.
Why Bet on the Arizona Cardinals?
Arizona lost 19-9 at Seattle on Sunday. Kyler Murray completed 23 of 37 passes for 222 yards with an interception, while rushing for 100 yards for the Cardinals, who couldn’t score even when they moved the ball effectively.
“We can’t finish. That’s the moral of the story right now,” Murray said. “We’re not finishing drives. Not putting the ball in the end zone. Can’t win like that.”
Murray also lost leading receiver Marquise Brown to an injury that likely will cost him six weeks. Brown has a non-surgical fracture in his foot. Brown has been the lone bright spot in an otherwise bland Kliff Kingsbury offense. He’s generated 485 yards and three touchdowns on 43 catches. Hollywood went for at least 68 yards in each of the last five games, including a 140-yard outburst in Week 3 against the Rams. Brown was on pace to smash his career-high 1,008-yard mark set last season.
However, the Cards will get back five-time Pro Bowl receiver DeAndre Hopkins back from suspension and they also traded for Carolina’s Robbie Anderson this week. Since 2013, Hopkins leads the league in receptions (789) and ranks second in receiving yards (10,581) and fourth in touchdown receptions (68). Murray has two touchdown passes and a passer rating of 100-or-higher in two of his three career starts on Thursday.
