Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers?

The Steelers ended a four-game skid with a 20-18 upset of Tampa Bay on Sunday. Rookie starter Kenny Pickett left early with a concussion but is trending toward playing because he practiced fully on Wednesday. Mitch replaced him and completed 9 of 12 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, also helping the Steelers run the clock out in the game’s closing moments with a pair of big third-down completions to wide receiver Chase Claypool.

But Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Pickett will remain the starter if he clears concussion protocol.

“It’s my understanding that his work won’t be limited in any way in preparation in any way,” Tomlin said of Pickett. “We’ll adhere to the protocol and we’ll follow that and let that be our guide in terms of participation. I’ll say this, if he’s cleared to play, he’ll play quarterback for us. In the meantime, we’ll ready ourselves.”

Pickett has completed 64.3 percent of his passes for 394 yards with one touchdown and one interception in his starts and has led the Steelers (2-4) to scores on the opening drive of the game in both of his starts.

Top tight end Pat Freiermuth was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice and is expected to play. Before his Week 5 exit because of the concussion, Freiermuth was averaging 4.5 catches for 56 yards per game.

Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was limited in Wednesday’s practice. Fitzpatrick played through his knee issue in Week 5 but was forced to sit out of the following contest. The Steelers were without three other corners in Week 6, though the Bucs were mostly unable to take advantage of this, putting up just 18 points. Fitzpatrick has been incredibly productive again in 2022, producing 33 tackles and four pass deflections while recording three interceptions over five games.

Why Bet on the Miami Dolphins?

The Dolphins lost their third in a row Sunday, 24-16 to Minnesota, but didn’t have injured starting QB Tua Tagovailoa. Fins receiver Tyreek Hill had 12 receptions for 177 yards. Hill, who had 11 receptions for 190 yards in Week 2 and 10 receptions for 160 yards in Week 4, is the first player in NFL history to record at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards in three of his team’s first six games of a season.

Hill has eight career games with at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards, surpassing Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson (seven games) and Julio Jones (seven) for the most such games by a player in his first seven seasons all-time.

After missing multiple weeks due to the concussion he suffered on Sept. 29, Tagovailoa is preparing to start this Sunday for the Dolphins The NFL’s leader in QBR at the time of his injury in Week 4, Tagovailoa said the process of his return to the field was “pretty stressful,” including his interviews with the NFL and NFLPA as part of their joint investigation into how his situation was handled.

The Dolphins have seen a sharp decline in their offensive efficiency without Tagovailoa on the field. Through the first three weeks of the season, they ranked first and second in the league in points per drive and offensive expected points added, respectively. In the time since, they’ve fallen to 28th in offensive EPA and 29th in points per drive.

“I’m just really excited that I can prepare and play this Sunday,” Tagovailoa said Wednesday in his first news conference with the media since his concussion. “I think everyone is excited to go out there and compete against a really good Steelers team.”

The Dolphins will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their perfect 1972 team on Sunday. A fake punt made a big difference when the teams met 50 years ago in the 1972 AFC Championship Game. Dolphins punter Larry Seiple ran for 37 yards to set up a game-tying touchdown by Larry Csonka – one of 17 Pro Football Hall of Famers from that single contest – in helping Miami m to a 21-17 win over the Steelers. Making the Dolphins’ road to a perfect season even more difficult, Miami had to travel to Three Rivers Stadium because, at the time, the NFL determined conference championship hosts with a rotational system. Pittsburgh had advanced to the game after its Immaculate Reception the week before.
