San Francisco 49ers 2022 NFL Draft Best First-Round Targets
The San Francisco 49ers were one win away from making their second trip to the Super Bowl in three years, but sadly came up short in the 2022 NFC Championship Game against the rivals and eventual Super Bowl Champion, Los Angeles Rams. Roger McCreary – Auburn (CB)
Even with Charvarius Ward joining the fray, San Francisco could still use more depth in its secondary. With the 61st-overall pick in the second round, Auburn’s Roger McCreary should still be on the board given the loaded cornerback class this year. McCreary stood out as a terrific man-to-man defender, securing a pair of interceptions and 12 passes defended in his final season as a Tiger.
Nick Cross – Maryland (S)
Another direction that the Niners could go is at safety instead of cornerback if the pool of CBs starts to dry up early. That being said, Nick Cross from Maryland is a well-rounded prospect that could fit in nicely in San Fran’s secondary. Cross is considered a top-five safety in this year’s draft class, finishing his final year for the Terps with 66 tackles, three sacks, three picks, and two forced fumbles.
Darian Kinnard – Kentucky (OT)
San Francisco’s offense has its own fair share of concerns. From the likely full-season debut of Trey Lance to the lingering rumors of a frustrated Deebo Samuel, the team sure could use a fresh body on the O-line to keep its stellar running game humming. Darian Kinnard of Kentucky comes to mind as a prospect who could fall on the Niners’ lap as a superb run-blocker from his time in Lexington. Kinnard would also make for a solid insurance policy next season should center Alex Mack decide to retire or Mike McGlinchey finding a new home as a free agent.
