Super Bowl LVII Injuries That Will Affect Your Bets

By Hank Blaine

Injuries are a massive factor when it comes to Super Bowl odds and the team you decide to back to win the big game. Injuries can determine a winning or losing Super Bowl bet. Plenty of players have showed up on injury reports for both the Eagles and the Chiefs. See below for the three most important questions regarding injuries for both the Eagles and the Chiefs.

Most significant Philadelphia Eagles’ injuries

  • T L. Johnson – Ques – Groin
  • G L. Dickerson – Prob – Elbow
  • QB J. Hurts – Not Listed – Shoulder

Will Johnson be able to pull or set his feet to prevent Frank Clark’s rush?

Groin injuries are notoriously difficult to deal with. In this case, Johnson should be okay. But if the right tackle can’t set his feet, Kansas City defensive end Frank Clark could have a field day. Make sure to do a deep dive into Johnson’s injury. Again, groin injuries can take a long time to heal.

Is Jalen’s shoulder healed enough to where he can rush the football effectively?

Hurts’ shoulder didn’t land him on the injury report. But let’s be clear, Jalen has said, and continues to say, the shoulder isn’t one hundred percent.

The issue shouldn’t affect his ability to throw. But it could affect his ability to run with the ball. First, it might be difficult for Jalen to hold the ball the way he usually does. Second, he won’t want to lower the shoulder and take a hit on it. So, yes, Hurts’ shoulder could be a problem for Philly.

Will Dickerson’s elbow hold up enough from him to push defenders with force?

The Eagles have taken Dickerson off the injury report. That doesn’t mean the nagging elbow injury won’t impact how Landon plays.

If Dickerson feels any sort of pain, he’ll mentally protect the elbow, which means he could lay off when he pushes defenders. That might be an issue.

Most significant Kansas City Chiefs’ injuries

  • QB P. Mahomes – Prob – Ankle
  • WR M. Hardman – Out – Pelvis
  • WR J. Smith-Schuster – Prob – Knee
  • RB I. Pacheco – Prob – Wrist

Is Mahomes ankle healthy enough for Patrick to be a rushing attack threat?

Mahomes looked great scrambling out of bounds to set up the Kansas City Chiefs for a game-winning field goal versus the Bengals. But that doesn’t mean the high-ankle sprain is fullyhealed.

Not only that, but the Eagles’ defense is the best against the pass in the league. So Patrick is likely to have to rush much more in this game than he did versus Cincinnati. Magic Mahomes’ high-ankle sprain remains the most important injury of any heading into Super Bowl 57.

Will Smith-Schuster step up now that Hardman is out?

Both of Kansas City’s top wideouts are dealing with injuries. Mecole Hardman is out do a pelvis problem. Smitch-Schuster will play. But how will Juju perform?

The veteran receiver has developed a great rapport with KC’s QB. If the Eagles double, or even triple team Travis Kelce, Smith-Schuster will have to step it up. The knee injury could hinder Juju’s efforts.

Will Isaiah Pacheco have trouble keeping his arms around the football?

Isaiah Pacheco’s wrist could be an issue. If Pacheco can’t hang onto the ball, he could cough it up.

So if you want to back the Chiefs, for sure consider Pacheco’s wrist injury, Mahomes’ ankle, and whether Schuster-Smith is healthy enough to step it up.

If you want to back the Eagles, consider how well Johnson and Dickerson can move as well as if Hurts can lower his shoulder on QB runs.
