Why Bet on the Tennessee Titans?
There’s nothing like a date with the dysfunctional Jacksonville Jaguars to cure one’s recent woes. The Tennessee Titans snapped their two-game winning streak by shutting out the Jaguars in Week 14, 20-0, to improve to 9-4 and tentatively slot in as the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoff race.
Tennessee held Jacksonville to a total of just 192 offensive yards and forced a whopping four turnovers. This is a significant improvement for the team’s stop unit that ceded 58 points between the top-seeded Patriots and the lowly Texans over their last two defeats. However, the team still has a middle-of-the-road defense in terms of raw stats, all things considered.
What’s a better sign is that the Titans are slowly getting back their confidence on offense. After two straight outings of registering just 13 points apiece, they’ve gotten some life back with Ryan Tannehill playing error-free football under center. Tennessee is averaging just 19.4 points per game following the season-ending injury to stud running back Derrick Henry, and the team will need to keep pace with a volatile Pittsburgh offense holding home-field advantage this week.
Why Bet on the Pittsburgh Steelers?
The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to capitalize on their massive win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13 by coming up short in their road trip to Minnesota this past weekend. They lost to the Vikings, 36-28, in a game wherein they had no business winning to begin with.
Pittsburgh was in a 29-0 hole in the middle of the third quarter before the Vikings’ defense started to implode down the stretch. Ben Roethlisberger threw three late passing TDs in hopes of a stunning comeback but ultimately came up short. Big Ben finished with over 300 passing yards for just the second time this season. The Steelers have to realize that rookie running back Najee Harris (94 rushing yards and one TD on 20 carries against Minny) has got to be the focal point of their offense and not their once-potent passing game.
Although the Steelers racked up five sacks on the Vikes, they only managed to force one turnover that afternoon. Pittsburgh’s 13 takeaways are the fourth-fewest in the league this season thus far, which is rather disappointing when compared to their spectacular defensive performance from the previous season. The team is also allowing the sixth-most yards on average to their opponents.
Titans vs. Steelers Betting Trends
- The Titans are 5-2 on the road this season (4-3 ATS).
- The Titans have lost three straight meetings against Pittsburgh and six of the last eight since 2009 (3-5 ATS).
- The totals went over in all but one of Tennessee’s seven road games this year.
- The Steelers are 4-3-1 at home this season and just 2-6 against the spread.
- The Steelers have won six straight games against teams from the AFC South (5-0-1 ATS).
- The totals went over in five of Pittsburgh’s last seven games in general.
Titans vs. Steelers Expert Betting Predictions
The Titans appear to be in better shape of late despite their plethora of injury troubles on offense. On the other hand, the Steelers are just as unpredictable all season long, making this contest a virtual toss-up when it comes to predicting the inevitable winner. Perhaps placing stakes on the over/under would be wiser considering the aforementioned trends for both sides are leaning towards a high-scoring affair.
