2023 NFL Thanksgiving Games and Black Friday Betting Preview

By Hank Blaine

2023 NFL Thanksgiving Thursday is just about here. Every year, the NFL puts on a Thanksgiving show with three Turkey Day games. As always, the Detroit Lions kick off this Thursday’s festivities in the early afternoon matchup. The Lions welcome rival Green Bay to Ford Field for the first game. Then in the second game, the Dallas Cowboys host the Washington Commanders before Thursday night’s nightcap contest between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. Then for the first time in NFL history, the league will play a Black Friday game. Check out NFL odds, analysis, and free picks for this week’s Thanksgiving and Black Friday NFL matchups.

A Closer Look at The 2023 NFL Thanksgiving Games and Black Friday Matchup

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

  • When: Thursday, November 23rd, 2023. 12:30pm EST.
  • Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
  • TV: FOX
  • Radio: WRNW 97.3 The Game (Packers) // WXYT 97.1 FM (Lions)
  • Live Stream: NFL+
  • NFL Odds: Packers (+7.5) // Lions (-7.5)

The Green Bay Packers have picked it up in 2 of their last 3 games. The Pack beat the L.A. Rams 20-3 in NFL Week 10. Then after a close 23-19 loss to the Steelers on the road, Green Bay bounced back against the Chargers at home in their last, dumping LAC 23-20 as a +5.5 Lambea dog.

But although the Packers are playing decent football, we shouldn’t read too much into Green Bay’s victories. The Rams and Chargers aren’t close to Detroit’s level. The Lions are one of the best teams in the NFL. Not only that, this game takes place on Thanksgiving Day when the Lions usually play their best.

Washington Commanders vs. Dallas Cowboys

  • When: Thursday, November 23rd, 2023. 3:30pm EST.
  • Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
  • TV: CBS
  • Radio: BIG100 (Commanders) // KMVK 107.5 FM (Cowboys)
  • Live Stream: NFL+
  • NFL Odds: Commanders (+11) // Cowboys (-11)

The Commanders are a disaster. Washington is already thinking of the 2024 NFL Regular Season. How else to explain trading away their starting defensive ends? Not only that, but D.C.’s offensive line hasn’t played well, which means Sam Howell will have a rough day in this.

Also, any team that loses to Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants at home as a -9.5 favorite, which is what Washington did last Sunday, isn’t a good pro football squad.

It doesn’t help that on Thursday the Commanders’ O-line faces Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and the rest of Dallas’ strong front seven. For sure, Howell is good for at least one interception. Don’t be surprised if it’s a three pick for Sam because Dak Prescott and the Boys’ offense will torch D.C.’s defense.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks

  • When: Thursday, November 23rd, 2023. 8:20pm EST.
  • Where: Lumen Field, Seattle, WA
  • TV: NBC
  • Radio: KSAN 107.7 The Bon (49ers) // KIRO Newsradio 97.3 F (Seahawks)
  • Live Stream: NFL+
  • NFL Odds: 49ers (-7) // Seahawks (+7)

Seattle is just a single game behind the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. Based on the odds, though, one would think the Seahawks have no shot of taking it to the Niners.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the reality is that Seattle doesn’t. The Seahawks couldn’t manage a victory over the Rams in a tight 17-16 game. How the heck is Geno Smith going to beat a front seven that includes Nick Bosa, Chase Young, and Fred Warner?

Seattle’s defense is also facing a steep hill to climb. Brock Purdy and San Francisco’s offense are like a machine. Forget the three game losing streak. It happened when the 49ers had injuries. Heading into Thursday, San Francisco is healthy and that will spell doom for Seattle.

2023 NFL Thanksgiving Pick: San Francisco 49ers

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

  • When: Friday, November 24th, 2023. 3:00pm EST.
  • Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
  • TV: Amazon Prime Video
  • Radio: WRNW 97.3 The Game (Dolphins) // ESPN New York 98.7 FM (Jets)
  • Live Stream: NFL+
  • NFL Odds: Dolphins (-9.5) // Jets (+9.5)

After their third loss in a row, New York Jets head coach decided to do what so many believed he was going to do weeks ago, bench former second pick in the NFL Draft Zach Wilson. Wilson has been unbelievably bad in the Jets’ last three contests, all losses, versus the Chargers, Raiders, and Bills.

Tim Boyle shouldn’t be as bad as Wilson. But Boyle won’t keep up with Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami offense. The Dolphins haven’t dominated their opponents in their last few games as thoroughly as they did at the beginning of the season. That changes on Friday night. Expect at least a 14 point victory and don’t be surprised if the margin is up to 20.
