The San Francisco 49ers made all sorts of headlines entering Week 7 after they announced the signing of star running back Christian McCaffrey from the Panthers. A win before heading into the bye is just what the Los Angeles Rams needed to hit the proverbial reset button. The defending Super Bowl champions are merely 3-3 through the first six weeks of the season, with one of those defeats coming at the hands of the very same Niners that they’ll be facing this coming Sunday.
At the end of Week 6, the Rams committed the most turnovers in the league with 13 gimmes to the opposition no thanks to the baffling play under center from Matthew Stafford. The 14-year veteran only has one start this season wherein he didn’t throw an interception. On the bright side, Stafford is still averaging over 250 passing yards per game to keep Los Angeles’ offense without a reliable running game humming along.
It’s been feast or famine for LA’s defense as well. The Rams are allowing the fifth-fewest yards to opponents on average this season but are just middle of the road in scoring defense (21.0 PAPG). They have to be prepared for another run-heavy attack from the Niners in Week 8 and they’ll be glad to find out that they’re the ninth-best team in the NFL against the run at 104.2 rushing yards allowed per contest.
