Top ranked Georgia has played well enough to go undefeated so far this season and keep their number 1 ranking. But the Dawgs haven’t dominated the way they did in 2022. Quarterback Carson Beck has begun to assert himself. Beck completed 77.1% of his passes versus South Carolina and threw for 269 yards in UGA’s 24-14 victory.

The Dawgs’ QB threw for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns when completing 68.8% of his passes. Overall, Beck has thrown 6 TDs and a single pick.

Georgia is also a fantastic rushing team. The Bulldogs average 158.8 rushing yards per game.

Up until their last, Auburn’s D had played great football. The Tigers held Massachusetts to 10. California scored 10 in a great Auburn road win.

Samford scored 13 giveaway points in a blowout victory. But in their last game, the Tigers allowed Texas A&M to drop 27 in a loss.

However, the game took place in College Station on the Aggies’ field. Not only that, but Texas A&M scored 14 points in the third and 7 in the fourth. In the first half, Auburn’s D stood strong, allowing just 6 points.

If we throw out the performance versus Texas A&M, Auburn starting quarterback Payton Thorne, a Michigan State transfer, has had a decent season.

2-of-3 Thorne interception tosses came against the Aggies. Thorne rushed for 123 yards and 2 TDs agianst Samford.

Auburn is a run first team, which is why Jarquez Hunter and the rest of the backs in the RB room are key. Hunter has rushed 31 times for 143 yards and a 4.6 per carry average. Jamari Alston has 131 yards from 26 carries for a 5.0 per carry average.

The Auburn Tigers are a work in progress. Ask head coach Hugh Freeze and he will say the same thing. Freeze is an offensive genius, which is why it’s taking time for Thorne, the running backs, and the wide receivers to learn Freeze’s system.

Auburn should have success moving the football versus a UGA defense that has shown signs of not being as dominant in the last couple of games.

If the Auburn defense that played in the first half against Texas A&M puts in four good quarters, the Tigers can keep any loss to within the spread. But if Georgia’s Beck goes off early, the game will be over before halftime.

So which is it? Freeze and his staff put together a decent plan versus Texas A&M that fell apart in the second half. At home, we should expect Auburn to step it up. Taking the 14.5 points on the home dog is the play.
