Kansas City Chiefs 2022 NFL Draft Best First-Round Targets

By Carlos Chacon

One key departure during the free-agency season changed the complexion of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense in an instant. Kansas City looks to replace the speediest wide receiver in the game, Tyreek Hill, by way of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Chiefs have two first-round picks thanks to the additional first-rounder from the Hill trade, which gives them plenty of solid options to equip Patrick Mahomes with new weapons in the passing game.

Jameson Williams – Alabama (WR)

Prior to tearing his ACL in the National Championship Game, Alabama’s Jameson Williams was arguably the best wide receiver entering the 2022 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, the upside on Williams is too hard to pass for the Chiefs to ignore and are able to give the Bama standout more time to recover before making an impact in the pros. The Chiefs might have to trade up for Williams, regardless, but do have the 29th and 30th-overall picks to work with.

Chris Olave – Ohio State (WR)

Should the Chiefs have concerns about Williams’ recovery, there’s always two-time first-team All-Big-Ten selection Chris Olave from Ohio State. Olave has hauled in a total of 33 receiving touchdowns over his last three years in Columbus and should fit in perfectly for KC’s high-octane offense. However, like Williams, Olave is projected to fly off the boards around the first half of the opening round, which means the Chiefs would probably have to pay a premium for the 21-year-old.

Jahan Dotson – Penn State (WR)

Without trading up for a top-five receiver in the draft, the most likely wideout that will be available for the Chiefs to snag is Jahan Dotson from Penn State. Dotson’s built more like a possession wide receiver than a speedy one like Hill, but his route-running ability means that his transition to the pro level will be relatively quicker. In addition, Dotson has also seen action as a punt returner – a task that Hill was also appointed for the Chiefs.
