Why Bet on the Detroit Lions?

After a brutal overtime loss to the Seahawks in Week 2, the Detroit Lions responded with a resounding comeback by way of a 20-6 victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. Detroit continues to impress in the third season under head coach Dan Campbell, who has his boys from the Motor City all revved up for a playoff berth early on.

Jared Goff had a middle-of-the-road performance for his standards this past weekend, running and throwing for a touchdown while also getting picked off once and throwing for 243 yards on 22-of-33 passing. Thankfully, there’s finally a Jahmyr Gibbs sighting, as the rookie running back had 17 carries for 80 rushing yards as the Lions’ lead back in place of injured David Montgomery.

This is also the first time that Detroit won a game holding an opponent under 10 points since Week 9 of the previous season. It also happens to be a game that the Lions won against the very same Packers that they’re facing this week, albeit with that last matchup being held in their home field. Nevertheless, the Lions are playing with more confidence than ever that their rivalry with the Cheeseheads isn’t as lopsided as it has been for decades.

It took an untimely injury to New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr for the Green Bay Packers to pull away with a huge road victory in the Big Easy. The Packers escaped with a close 18-17 win over the Saints after falling into a 17-point hole at halftime and got things going once Andy Dalton stepped in for Carr under center.

Jordan Love continues to chuck the ball at whim, finishing with 44 passes for 259 yards. Love only scored one passing TD while only completing half of his throws and also throwing one interception. Green Bay’s run game was also predicated on their fourth-year gunslinger’s wheels, as Love led his team with 39 rushing yards on nine carries.

The Packers have been involved in back-to-back one-point contests against a pair of NFC South contests, but now it’s time for them to return home and exert their supposed dominance over their division. They decimated the Bears in Week 1 and should be in a shootout with the Lions that works in their favor as Love continues to play fearless football on the attack.

We’ll have to side with the Lions for now as they’ve been the more balanced team in the division, whereas the Packers are too one-dimensional by leaning too heavily on Love and the passing game.
