Dallas Stars vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

The Stars could be getting some reinforcements back. Defensemen John Klingberg is likely to return to the lineup on Monday against Columbus, per coach Rick Bowness. lingberg was paired with Ryan Suter during Sunday’s practice. He has missed four games due to a lower-body injury after he was hurt in Dallas’ season opener.

However, the news isn’t as good for two wingers. Jason Robertson was on the ice for practice on Sunday, but he won’t travel with the team to Columbus. The 22-year-old hasn’t played yet this season because of an upper-body injury. Blake Comeau took part in Sunday’s practice but also is not expected back quite yet. Comeau hasn’t played yet this season because of an upper-body injury.

Columbus remains without one of its best players in center Max Domi. He will miss at least a couple more weeks with a fractured rib. Domi hadn’t been back in action long, having returned well ahead of schedule after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. The 26-year-old has a goal and three assists through two games of his second season in Columbus. Domi was clearly energized playing on a line with rookie center Cole Sillinger and captain/left wing Boone Jenner.

Jenner has scored in three consecutive contests and four-of-five on the young season. He is already halfway home to the eight goals he scored in 41 games last season. The Blue Jackets have scored a power-play goal in four of five games this year and all four games this year in which the team has earned a power play.

Dallas is just 2-7 in its past nine trips to Columbus and this is the team’s lone visit this year.

NHL Betting Pick: Blue Jackets

Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators

  • When: Monday, October 25th, 2021. 7:00pm ET
  • Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
  • TV: SN1, RDS, NBCSWA+
  • Radio: 106.7 The Fan (Capitals) // TSN1200 (Senators)
  • Live Stream: NHL Live
  • NHL Betting Odds: Washington Capitals -1.5

The Senators will have to turn to their backup goaltender Anton Forsberg as starter Matt Murray left Saturday’s loss to the Rangers with a head injury. As he directed a shot into the net for a power-play goal with 5:23 to play, Chris Kreider moved to step past a lunging Murray, but his left knee caught the goaltender in the facemask. Murray will go on injured reserve and miss 1-2 weeks.

The Senators have big plans for Murray, who stopped 22 shots before leaving. Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins before last season, Murray signed a new deal with Ottawa this summer, totaling $25 million over four years. Murray won two Stanley Cup titles with the Penguins.

Winer Austin Watson was on the ice for Sunday’s practice but is not ready to make his season debut yet with an ankle injury. Center Shane Pinto may be sidelined for one-to-two weeks, but a timetable hasn’t been ironed out yet.

The Capitals have not scored on the power play in their last four games. They are 0-for-14 in their last four games after opening the season going 3-for-6 against the Rangers.

“There’s things that we can do better, there’s things that we’re working on,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “This power play group has a lot of history. I think losing a guy like Nick Backstrom, that factors into it a little bit, but we’ve still got talented players on the ice and guys that can make plays and make things happen. There were a couple chances, but that’s a chance for a power play to make a difference in a game.”

Superstar Alex Ovechkin is riding a five-game point streak to start the season. He’s up to five goals and 10 points already in 2021-22. This is the first meeting of the season between Washington and Ottawa. The Capitals have won 15 of the past 17 in the series.
