Arguably the marquee matchup on the NFL’s Wild Card Weekend and the game that may draw the highest TV ratings and betting action features two of the league’s marquee and most popular franchises as the Green Bay Packers visit the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.

Why Bet on the Green Bay Packers?

Green Bay beat Chicago 17-9 on Sunday to earn the NFC’s No. 7 seed. It could have been a No. 6 but the Rams upset the 49ers on Sunday. Jordan Love completed 27 of 32 passes for 316 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday’s win and has been red hot down the stretch. He surpassed 300 passing yards in a game for the second time thanks to long completions of 59 and 32 yards to Jayden Reed.

Love has pulled off something that neither Brett Favre nor Rodgers could manage: He led the Packers to a playoff berth in his first season as the full-time starting quarterback. It wasn’t until Year 2 as the starter that Favre and Rodgers led the Packers to the playoffs. The Packers also got into the postseason with running back Aaron Jones (22 carries for 111 yards) on a run of three straight 100-yard games.

“He’s just resilient,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said of Love. “Those are things you cannot coach. You can sit there and talk about it till you’re blue in the face. However, that’s something he possesses, and I admire him for that, his ability to stay even keel, to battle through adversity, to lead our team.”

With No. 1 WR Christian Watson out (hamstring) out again Sunday and fellow WR Romeo Doubs suffering a chest injury in the first half, rookie fifth-round pick Dontayvion Wicks caught two touchdown passes, which gave the Packers 31 receiving touchdowns by first- and second-year players, which is tied with the 1960 New York Titans for second most such scores in NFL history, trailing only the 1961 Oilers (44).

These teams didn’t play this regular season. It will be the ninth postseason meeting between the Packers and Cowboys, with the two teams tied at 4-4. The Packers have won the last two meetings, in the 2014 and 2016 postseasons.

Green Bay did host Dallas in the 2022 regular season and won 31-28 in OT on Mason Crosby’s game-winning 28-yard field goal. Rodgers had three TD passes to Rodgers.

Why Bet on the Dallas Cowboys?

Dallas won the NFC East and earned the conference’s No. 2 seed with a 38-10 blowout victory over Washington on Sunday. Dak Prescott completed 31 of 36 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. The Cowboys finally put together a strong performance on the road, and Prescott led the way with four red-zone TD strikes, two to CeeDee Lamb and one each to Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks.

In the process, Prescott became the first Dallas quarterback to ever lead the NFL in touchdown passes, tossing 36 in 17 games. Prescott could finish as high as second in the NFL MVP voting and became the first quarterback in NFL history with four games in a season with a completion percentage of 80-or-higher (minimum 30 attempts in each game).

Lamb completed a career year by catching 13 of his targets for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Lamb finished with 135 receptions and became the sixth player in NFL history with at least 130 in a season. The record is 149 by the Saints’ Michael Thomas in 2019. Lamb finished with 12 touchdown receptions and became the fourth player all-time with at least 125 receptions and 10 touchdown receptions in a season, joining Antonio Brown (2014 and 2015), Marvin Harrison (2002) and Cooper Kupp (2021). Lamb had seven games with at least 11 receptions this season, surpassing Thomas (six games in 2019) for the most games with 11-or-more receptions in a season in NFL history.

Linebacker Micah Parsons had a sack in the win to finish with 14. He has 40.5 career sacks and became the fifth player since 1982, when the individual sack became an official statistic, with at least 40 sacks in his first three seasons. The speed with which Parsons operates is amazing. His average QB pressure came after just 2.18 seconds, which allows him to blow up just about any passing concept an opposing team is going to run. No player over the past five seasons has at least 20 pressures and an average time to pressure under 2.2 seconds.

Current Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was formerly in the same role with Green Bay and won a Super Bowl with the Packers – still the only Super Bowl that Aaron Rodgers has won. McCarthy said he has not seen much of the Packers’ games during the season, unless it came in preparation for the Cowboys’ opponents.

“And it’s not Mike McCarthy versus Green Bay. It’s the Dallas Cowboys versus Green Bay and that’s something players need to understand as well. We want to go out there and win this for Coach, but let’s understand that it’s a team that is in our way. Let’s not make it bigger than what it is,” Dallas safety Jayron Kearse said.
