Why Bet on the New England Patriots?

The Dolphins scored 31 versus the Patriots but other than that horrible performance, New England has played decent defense.

Washington scored 17 in a New England loss. The Colts could post no more than 10 on the board. The Giants scored 10 and the Chargers scored 6.

For the sure, the problem in New England isn’t the defense. If the defense plays well on Thursday night, the Steelers could be in a dogfight because Pittsburgh’s offense isn’t great.

It’s impossible to write anything positive about the New England Patriots offense. The Pats boast the worst offense in the NFL. Even stats don’t support the thesis.

Amazingly, New England’s defense is getting worse. Maybe, New England scores negative points on Thursday night.

The Steelers continue to send one of the best defenses in the NFL to the field. Pittsburgh has held the Browns to 13 and the Bengals to 16 in 2 of their last 3 games.

The Steelers D didn’t play as well in NFL Week 13, yielding 24 points to the Arizona Cardinals in an upset loss. It was only the fifth time this season that Pittsburgh allowed 20 or more points in a game.

The offense was playing so badly that Mike Tomlin offensive coordinator Matt Canada and replaced him with Mike Sullivan.

So far, there has been some good and some bad. The Cardinals have a decent defense, but Pittsburgh should have scored more than 10 in the loss.

The Steelers did drop 16 against the Bengals in a road win the week before the debacle against Arizona. The problem Pittsburgh will have versus New England is that Kenny Pickett is out.

But even though the Patriots offense is a mess, the defense has stood tall. If this line was under 6, we might consider a bet on the home team to cover. But at 6, it’s difficult to have faith in the Steelers offense versus a surging defense to score enough to get the cover victory.
