Why Bet on the Tennessee Titans?
The stunning overtime defeat to the lowly New York Jets in Week 4 must’ve awakened something fierce within the Tennessee Titans, as they’ve now won three consecutive games with a 5-2 record; the only winning record in the AFC South. Not only that, but the Titans also took down the mighty Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs in succession.
Patrick Mahomes had no answers for Tennessee’s defense in Week 7, as the Chiefs were handed a huge 27-3 loss. The stout Titans defense forced three Kansas City turnovers that game, with Mahomes accounting for two of those three takeaways. Bruising running back Derrick Henry failed to crack the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in five weeks, but it wasn’t as though his team needed him to carry the brunt of the offensive load.
Ryan Tannehill had his most efficient day throwing the ball against KC’s porous secondary instead, as Tannehill completed 21 of 27 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown. No other team in the NFL can claim to have taken down both the Bills and Chiefs this season, and the well-balanced Titans are peaking at the right moment thanks to those couple of huge upsets.
Why Bet on the Indianapolis Colts?
Not to be fazed by suboptimal weather in the Bay Area, the Indianapolis Colts kept their winning ways going with a crucial 30-18 win in San Francisco over the 49ers in Week 7. It was a much-needed victory for the Colts, who are slowly finding their groove after their slow 0-3 start to the season.
With last Sunday’s primetime clash being drenched by heavy rain, Indianapolis rode its running game all the way to the finish line. Second-year back Jonathan Taylor ran roughshod over the Niners’ defense, racking up 107 rushing yards and a rushing TD on just 18 carries for a solid 5.9 yards-per-carry average. And although quarterback Carson Wentz committed his first turnover of the season by way of a lost fumble, that turnover didn’t end up costing his team.
Wentz also threw two TD passes for the fourth consecutive game and is managing Indy’s run-centric offense with varying degrees of success. Perhaps the return of veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton will give Indy’s passing attack a boost, just as Hilton’s season debut in Week 5 would suggest. The four-time Pro Bowl selection led his team with four catches and 80 receiving yards in Week 5 against the Texans but did not travel with the team to San Fran this past week due to a quad injury.
Titans vs. Colts Betting Trends
- The Titans are 11-3 in their last 14 regular-season road games (8-6 ATS).
- The Titans are 3-1 in their last four meetings against the Colts (SU/ATS).
- The totals went over in three of those four contests against Indy.
- The Colts are 4-4 in their last eight home games (3-5 ATS).
- The Colts are 5-2 in their last seven games against their AFC South rivals (3-5 ATS).
- The totals went under in four of the last five games played in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Titans vs. Colts Expert Betting Predictions
It’s quite surprising not seeing Tennessee have better odds as a clear favorite to win on the road against the middling Colts, especially after the team just took down two Super Bowl contenders these past couple of weeks. Then again, Indy’s playing very sound football of late, and the Titans did show tendencies of playing down to their competition this season already, as evident with the Titans’ shocking loss to the Jets. Chalk this up as a coin toss of a matchup that will be decided on the ground with Henry going up against Taylor for rushing supremacy.
